Operations Support Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Operations Support Engineer to work on our clientele projects. In this role, you will be responsible for managing, automating, and supporting critical cloud and on-premise infrastructure platforms, ensuring high reliability, security, and efficiency across all environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain cloud and on-premises infrastructure platforms (compute, storage, networking, containerisation, virtualisation, DNS, monitoring) across development, staging, and production environments.
- Implement and manage monitoring and observability frameworks (AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, StackOps).
- Please make sure that you comply with Whole-of-Government standards and implement security controls (access management, security hardening, compliance monitoring).
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, and AWS CloudFormation.
- Automate operational tasks and eliminate toil to improve system reliability and efficiency.
- Manage and optimise virtualisation platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V) and cloud services (AWS EC2, ECS, S3, RDS, Docker/Kubernetes, Lambda, IAM, VPC).
- Administer network and system components (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, routing protocols); execute automated patching strategies.
- Maintain backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions (AWS FIS, multi-AZ).
- Collaborate with application teams to support platform stability and scalability; create and maintain documentation and runbooks.
- Mentor and share knowledge on platform operations and modern infrastructure practices.
Mandatory Skills & Experience
- At least 5 years of work experience with Operational Tech Support.
- Advanced experience with enterprise virtualisation platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V).
- Proficiency in Linux and Windows Server administration.
- Hands-on expertise in infrastructure automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
- Strong experience with container technologies (ECS, Docker, Kubernetes).
- Proficient in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash, Node.js).
- Solid understanding of networking concepts and technologies.
- Experience with monitoring and observability frameworks (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack).
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience (Terraform, Ansible, AWS CloudFormation).
- Experience with high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Proficiency with GitHub or similar version control and CI/CD pipeline management.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related discipline.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Project Experience
- Implementation and management of enterprise-scale virtualisation and cloud infrastructure.
- Development and automation of operational workflows and monitoring solutions.
- Integration and optimisation of multi-platform infrastructure (on-premise and cloud).
- Delivery of high-availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
- Collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to support infrastructure modernisation initiatives.
Certifications (Preferred)
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator
- Additional certifications in networking, security, or government IT standards
Additional Requirements for Senior Roles
- Lead and manage infrastructure engineering and desktop support teams.
- Oversee daily IT operations, incident response, and operational excellence.
- Set operational guidelines, manage multiple deadlines, and ensure compliance with organisational policies.
- Coordinate incident, change, and asset management activities.
