Job Description: Import & Export Manager
Industry: Commodity Wholesale (Onion, Potatoes, Ginger and Other Produce)
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly capable Import & Export Manager to lead and manage the company's international trade operations. This role is responsible for overseeing cross-border procurement and distribution strategies, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements, and driving operational efficiency across the supply chain. The candidate will play a key role in optimizing trade processes, managing risks, and supporting business expansion into regional and global markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage end-to-end import and export operations, including procurement planning, shipment execution, and delivery performance
- Develop and implement trade strategies to optimize cost efficiency, lead time, and supply reliability
- Ensure full compliance with Singapore regulations and international trade laws, including customs requirements and documentation standards
- Oversee and validate all trade documentation, including contracts, invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and related compliance documents
- Manage relationships with international suppliers, distributors, freight forwarders, and logistics partners to ensure consistent supply chain performance
- Monitor global commodity markets (onion, potatoes, ginger and related products) to support pricing, sourcing, and procurement decisions
- Identify and mitigate risks related to shipment delays, regulatory changes, supply disruptions, and cost fluctuations
- Lead negotiations on pricing, Incoterms, contracts, and shipping arrangements with overseas partners
- Drive continuous improvement in logistics, inventory planning, and cross-border operations
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (sales, finance, and operations) to align supply chain strategies with business objectives
- Provide leadership, guidance, and performance oversight for the operations or logistics team where required
Requirements
- Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade, Business, or related field
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in import/export management, preferably in commodity trading or wholesale distribution
- Strong expertise in international trade regulations, customs compliance, and shipping documentation
- In-depth knowledge of Incoterms, trade finance instruments, and cross-border logistics operations
- Proven experience in managing supplier relationships and international negotiations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisions under pressure
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple high-value transactions simultaneously
Preferred Skills
- Experience in agricultural commodity trading (e.g. onion, potato, ginger)
- Familiarity with regional sourcing markets such as India, China, and Southeast Asia
- Strong commercial awareness and strategic thinking capabilities
- Leadership experience in managing teams or cross-functional coordination
