About the role
An established commodities trading organisation is seeking an Operational Risk Specialist to support the Operational Risk & Internal Control team. The role will plan and execute operational risk initiatives, translate business processes into clear controls and documentation, and help strengthen governance across trading and corporate functions.
Key responsibilities
- Support operational risk assessments, process walkthroughs and control evaluations across trade desks and support functions.
- Assist in developing and implementing operational risk frameworks, policies, SOPs, control matrices and risk registers.
- Map and document endtoend business workflows for commodity trading lifecycles (pretrade to posttrade).
- Monitor KRIs and report emerging risks to senior management.
- Coordinate internal control reviews, work with stakeholders and external testers, and follow up on incidents.
- Support review of process risks for new business or operational changes.
- Ensure consistency across internal control frameworks, flowcharts and manuals.
- Perform other duties to support the team's risk management objectives.
Experience & qualifications
- Minimum 5 years experience in operational risk, operational processes or operational excellence within a global commodities trading environment (minerals/bulk commodities preferred).
- Practical experience with trade contracts and posttrade processes in physical commodity trading.
- Strong understanding of financial instruments, market dynamics, credit and operational risk exposures.
- Handson experience in process design, workflow documentation, RCSA, SOPs and control matrices.
- Knowledge of AML, KYC, sanctions and export control operational requirements is an advantage.
