Operating Theatre Assistant

Brief Summary

Join a vital role in the healthcare team as an Operating Theatre Assistant, where you will support surgical procedures and ensure the smooth operation of the operating theatre environment.

Responsibilities

1. Collaborate with the surgical team and nursing staff to prepare for daily operations.
2. Assist in pre-operative preparations and provide post-operative patient care.
3. Maintain cleanliness in the operating theatre and equipment rooms, including routine housekeeping tasks.
4. Prepare disinfectants and ensure daily cleaning schedules are followed.
5. Transport patients between the inpatient ward and the operating theatre as required.
6. Dispatch specimens to the laboratory when necessary.
7. Ensure the operating room is ready with all necessary equipment and verify their proper functioning before surgery.
8. Assist in positioning patients under the direction of nursing and surgical staff.
9. Help apply patient return electrodes for electro-surgical units.
10. Remain in the operating room during procedures, assisting with surgical lighting when needed and notifying the circulating nurse upon leaving.
11. Handle equipment with care, ensuring all items are clean and stored properly after use.
12. Report any equipment malfunctions to assigned nursing management personnel.
13. Conduct regular inventory checks on all operating room equipment and machines.
14. Assist nurses with the safe transfer and positioning of patients throughout the surgical process.
15. Follow protocols for infection control, including managing waste disposal in the operating theatre.
16. Perform cleaning duties after surgeries and ensure thorough terminal cleaning post-duty.
17. Stay informed about fire safety and evacuation procedures.
18. Comply with operating theatre regulations, policies, and procedures.
19. Create a safe and clean environment for patients while maintaining their confidentiality.
20. Help manage and replenish operating theatre supplies.
21. Develop skills and knowledge through on-the-job training related to technical and surgical equipment.

Requirements

1. Minimum GCE N Level or a Certificate in Health Care.
2. At least 1 year of relevant experience in a similar role.
3. Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.
4. Demonstrated capacity for independent work and initiative.
5. Technical competency in operating theatre procedures and equipment handling.
