Job Description

Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist provides assessment and intervention to support students with special needs in developing functional, daily living and participation skills. The role works closely with students, caregivers, instructors, job coaches and multidisciplinary professionals to promote independence, safety and meaningful participation across school, home and community settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct functional and environmental assessments using appropriate OT tools and frameworks formulate student-centred SMART goals and individualised intervention plans.
  • Plan and deliver individual and group interventions to develop students functional, daily living, motor and participation skills.
  • Recommend and implement assistive devices, adaptive strategies and environmental/classroom modifications to enhance students independence and participation.
  • Work closely with students, caregivers, instructors, job coaches and multidisciplinary professionals provide training, consultation and caregiver education on OT needs.
  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, manage caseloads and risks, and adhere to APSN protocols and professional standards.
  • Apply evidence-based approaches, stay updated on OT practices and neurodevelopmental conditions, and uphold professional ethics, integrity and APSN values.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification, with valid registration and Practising Certificate with the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC).
  • Sound knowledge of neurodevelopmental conditions such as ASD, Intellectual Disability and ADHD, and their impact on learning, behaviour and functional participation.
  • Proficient in functional and environmental assessments, therapy planning, goal setting, and delivering individual and group OT interventions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage students, caregivers, instructors, job coaches and multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Able to manage caseloads, maintain accurate clinical documentation, manage risks and adhere to professional and organisational standards.
  • Demonstrates ethics, integrity and commitment to APSN values, continuous professional development, evidence-based practice and innovative problem-solving.
