Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all examinations are performed on the correct patient with regard to the identification and due observance of the relevant policy on irradiation of women of child bearing and procedural consent.
  • Ensure that patient's film is of optimal quality, correctly labelled and completeness of the examination requested before sending it in for reporting.
  • Perform different Positron Emission Tomography imaging procedures as per request.
  • Perform Hot Lab duties including preparation of radiopharmaceuticals necessary for imaging procedures
  • Perform history taking, explain procedure, consent taking and assists patients for PETCT procedures.
  • Handle and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients.
  • Process and print acquired PET images for diagnostic interpretations.
  • Archive patient's data and images for record-keeping purposes.
  • Order, receive and record daily and monthly orders of radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Calibrate equipment such as PET CT scanners, Dose Calibrators and other equipment.
  • Perform area monitoring and swipe tests.
  • Perform preparation, Handling, storing and Handling of Radioactive materials according to the SOP.
  • Maintain proper documentation as required
  • Ensure radiation and other safety procedures and precautions are complied
  • Be clinically competent in the range of imaging services offered by the Centre or as assigned by the Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist or the Clinical Director.

Other Responsibilities

  • Actively seek continual self-education to keep abreast with all new imaging technology, procedures and applications.
  • Ensure that the examination code registered corresponds to the requested examination and that self-paying patient is instructed to make payment after the examination.
  • Provide clear and simple explanation to the patient for each examination and the estimated duration of the examination to ally his anxiety and to gain his cooperation.
  • Ensure patient's safety, physical and emotional well-being of patients both during and after radiological examinations.
  • Ensure that all patients who appear to be unwell after diagnostic exams are bought to the attention of the doctor.
  • Handle all patients in a courteous and empathetic manner.
  • Work closely with the receptionists to co-ordinate patient appointments in such a manner as to minimize their waiting time at the Centre.
  • Consult the doctor whenever in doubt about any aspect of the requested examination so as to minimize incidents of having to recall patients for repeat exams or additional views.
  • Organize the workflow of the exam room so as to enable all procedures to be performed efficiently thereby minimizing the patients waiting time in the Centre.
  • To advise on any adjustment to the registration code where necessary and to ensure that patient makes relevant payment for the examination.
  • Take all precautions to protect patients, staff and members of the public from unnecessary exposure to ionizing radiation.
  • Be familiar with the recommendations of CRPNS with regard to radiation protection and take all necessary steps to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure that personal radiation monitoring devices are worn when working in the department.
  • Check that a written consent has been obtained from all patients undergoing examinations involving the intravenous injection of a Contrast Medium or radiopharmaceuticals and maintain proper records for such documents in accordance to the Centre's SOP.
  • Perform daily QA procedures for the film processor, dry laser imager, and imaging equipment in accordance to the manufacturers recommendations to ensure the consistent optimal performance of such equipment.
  • Report to the Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist on any irregularities in the performance of the equipment hardware/software.
  • Document all equipment problems, downtime and action taken to rectify such problems in the individual equipment log book located in each of the examination rooms.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and aesthetic appearance of the assigned examination room(s) and perform daily cleaning of the exposed surfaces of the equipment (especially areas in contact with the patient).
  • Be familiar with the guidelines set out in the Centre's Standard Operating Policies and Standard Operating Procedures and comply with them.
  • Understand the relevant service culture of the centre and values apply to staff.
  • Report to the Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist or the Clinical Director of any unusual event or incident that occurred in the centre according to relevant policy.
  • Protect the confidentiality of all company proprietary information and patient records as per relevant confidentiality policy.
  • Able to perform all examinations offered by the Centre in at least one other specialized modality.
  • To protect the safety and well-being of patients and staff when carrying out all examinations
