What a NPDI Product Engineer does at HP:
Design & Development
Create portions of engineering solutions for electrical/electronic parts, subsystems, and integrated circuitry based on established principles.
Translate product specifications into technical documentation, CAD models, and BOMs.
Ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
Testing & Validation
Develop and implement test plans for debugging defective hardware and process steps.
Validate tolerances, form/fit/function, EMI, safety, reliability, and thermal performance.
Publish test results and maintain thorough procedural records.
Manufacturing Integration
Support transition from prototype to full-scale production.
Apply DFM/DFA principles to reduce complexity and eliminate bottlenecks.
Collaborate with manufacturing teams for feasibility and quality assurance.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities for cost reduction and design optimization.
Monitor field performance and gather feedback for future iterations.
Collaboration
Work closely with internal and outsourced development partners.
Communicate findings and resolutions effectively across teams.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Materials Engineering (or related field).
Experience:
2-5 years in product development or similar engineering role, preferably in manufacturing or technology-driven environments.
Skills:
Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
Strong understanding of product development processes, DFM/DFA, and quality systems.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
