  • Responsible for maintaining and managing the SMU Enterprise & Research Network Infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, Wi-Fi Infrastructure as well as liaising with vendors on all IT Network Infrastructure to ensure that daily IT Network operations running smoothly.
  • Manage daily operations of the new Research Network for DC3, D4 and the coming new DC5 as well as Building Information Network to provide a high-quality experience for both the SMU's researchers as well as external collaborators independently.
  • Perform Off-Office Hours Cybersecurity patches as well as critical & complex network & firewall upgrade / migration activities to ensure overall network performance and security.
  • Manage and provide daily help centre service request ticket support for network related tasks & change request as well as providing network consultation services to follow IITS colleagues, Researchers and SOCIs.
  • Manage and responsible for delivery of high-quality service and user experience to the SMU community by maintaining and optimizing network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Senior Engineers and the Principal Engineer to carry out large complex project tasks and oversee Day 2 operations.
  • Manage, support and respond promptly to network faults, including complex/difficult troubleshooting and rectification, with availability to work after office hours and on weekends as needed.
  • Manage and perform technical assessments as well as testing on critical large-scale network deployments, including Research Network in collaboration with researcher, senior engineers and other IITS colleagues for new projects implementation.
  • Manage and provide advanced tech support as well as consultancy for all network-related tasks and activities in all IT key DMP projects such as Optimus and Prime1 & Prime 2, coordinating with OCIS for planning, technical evaluation and deployment.
  • Manage, provide and to ensure high availability, high-speed network support for major events like Admission Exercises, Student Convocations, Open Houses, and Online Examinations.
  • Provide coaching and technical advice to help centre engineer in the area of networking related request or issue.
  • Provide advanced technical advice for Researcher and SOCI pertaining to their network needs and supports various departments with customized solutions.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement Initiative in enterprise network infrastructure performance, security posture and operational reliability.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Electronic/ Electrical Engineering or equivalent/IT background. Minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering or related roles.
  • Associate level certification from Cisco, Juniper, or Aruba (e.g., CCNA, JNCIA, or ACMA) would be a plus and desirable.
  • Fundamental understanding of network technologies and protocols.
  • Proficiency in advanced complex troubleshooting and maintaining enterprise network systems.
  • Familiar with Cisco or Juniper Networking, Aruba Wi Fi network management at an enterprise level is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Aruba ClearPass and experience with Aruba Mobility Controllers for enterprise level Wi Fi and additional certifications or hands-on experience with Palo Alto, Fortinet, or Cisco ASA is advantageous.
  • Desirable to have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering or related roles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a positive, learning oriented mindset.
