You'll use your technical skills to service, diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicles, plant and equipment, both in the workshop and out on site, while contributing to a team that keeps Banyule's essential services moving. In This Role, You Will

  • Carry out scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance and repairs on Council's vehicles, plant and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults, using diagnostic tools and hands-on technical expertise.
  • Rebuild and repair major components and systems, including engines, transmissions, suspension units and fabricated parts where required.
  • Provide technical advice, maintain accurate work records, and support apprentice development and safe equipment operation.

What You'll Bring


We're looking for a qualified and capable mechanic who enjoys working across a diverse fleet and takes pride in delivering reliable, high-quality maintenance and repairs. You'll bring strong technical skills, solid post-trade experience and a practical approach to problem-solving, along with the ability to work safely and effectively in a busy workshop environment.

  • A Certificate of Proficiency as a Motor Mechanic (light or heavy stream), with heavy vehicle qualification preferred.
  • Extensive post-qualification experience maintaining and repairing heavy vehicles, plant and equipment—ideally in a local government or similar fleet environment.
  • Strong diagnostic and repair skills across mechanical systems, with knowledge of hydraulics and electrical fault finding, are highly regarded.
  • A Heavy Rigid (HR) driver's licence or the willingness to obtain one would be advantageous.

Pre-employment Requirements


  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Heavy Rigid (HR) Vehicle driver's licence (advantageous)
  • Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)
  • Functional Capacity Assessment

  • Salary $94,028.12 per annum plus super
  • 26 weeks of paid parental leave - primary carer/4 weeks of paid parental leave - partner
