Medical Laboratory Technologist

Responsibilities

• Receive and process laboratory specimens, assigning charge codes and rejecting unacceptable samples. Assist pathologists in trimming and evaluating specimens. Execute various technical functions, including processing, embedding, microtomy, and performing routine and complex staining. Prepare and label slides and ensure block checks are performed accurately. Conduct gross examination of simple and uncomplicated specimens. Perform frozen cryo-sectioning as needed. Manage after-hours duties to support liver transplant and renal explant services. Maintain laboratory equipment and execute basic troubleshooting when necessary. Monitor staining and sectioning quality to meet established standards. Provide technical guidance and training to laboratory personnel on procedures. Prepare and maintain necessary reagents and stains per specifications. Follow instructions from senior staff regarding work procedures. Assist in conducting in-house continuing education classes. Adhere to good laboratory practices, protocols, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Comply with Laboratory Safety Manuals and participate in necessary training. Contribute to project teams as required. Assist in preparing for internal and external audits. Manage inventory of reagents and chemicals. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Degree in Biological Sciences, Life Sciences, Biomedical Science, or an equivalent qualification is preferred. Relevant experience in a histology laboratory is advantageous. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate initiative. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient in multi-tasking and effective time management. Familiarity with applicable computer systems and software is essential.
