Job Description

About the job

We're looking for a Mechatronics Engineer Intern to support hardware development at Griffin Labs—a pre-seed embodied AI and robotics company building intelligent machines for facilities management in Singapore. You will help design, build, test, and document robotic systems and test rigs under the guidance of our mechatronics and robotics engineers.

This is a hands-on learning role with real deliverables: the CAD updates, assemblies, test logs, and documentation you produce feed prototyping, validation, and integration on physical robots. You should be comfortable in a lab—soldering, wiring, mechanical assembly, and following test plans—and eager to grow toward a full-time mechatronics, robotics, or hardware engineering career.

The role is an internship based on-site in Singapore for 3–6 months. You will report to the lead Mechatronics Engineer and participate in weekly progress updates and design reviews.

What you'll do

  • Assist with 3D modeling and 2D manufacturing drawings: create and modify CAD per engineer feedback; keep files versioned and organized
  • Execute prototyping and hardware assembly: build robotic subsystems, test rigs, and enclosures; solder, wire, fasten, and integrate sensors and actuators to spec
  • Run testing and validation: follow established test plans, monitor performance, log data accurately, and flag anomalies for the engineering team
  • Support software and firmware tasks where needed: draft or debug microcontroller or controller scripts for data collection or parameter tuning under supervision
  • Maintain technical documentation: engineering notebooks, assembly instructions, test summaries, and internal project notes
  • Provide general lab and engineering support: tool and workspace organization, calibration assistance, and constructive input in design reviews
  • Receive daily task assignments from the lead Mechatronics Engineer and provide a weekly summary of completed and in-progress work

What we're looking for

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field
  • Coursework or project experience in mechanical design, electronics, control systems, or robotics (academic, internship, or strong personal projects)
  • Working proficiency in at least one CAD tool (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape) and comfort producing or updating 2D drawings for fabrication
  • Hands-on shop or lab skills: soldering, basic wiring, mechanical assembly, and safe use of hand and power tools
  • Familiarity with sensors, actuators, and basic embedded systems (Arduino, STM32, Raspberry Pi, or similar)—enough to follow wiring diagrams and test procedures
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to follow test plans and record results consistently
  • Clear communication and ability to incorporate feedback in a fast-moving R&D environment
  • Comfortable working on-site in Singapore full-time for the internship term

Nice to have

  • Exposure to 3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, or other rapid prototyping for fixtures and brackets
  • Basic Python or C/C++ for logging, scripting, or microcontroller bring-up
  • Course or project work on mobile robots, manipulators, grippers, or sensor fusion
  • Familiarity with facilities, industrial, or field-deployed hardware (enclosures, cable routing, environmental constraints)
  • Interest in embodied AI and how hardware reliability supports autonomous operation in real buildings

Who you are

  • Practical and curious—you learn by building, measuring, and iterating
  • Careful in the lab: you respect safety, labeling, and version control for physical hardware
  • Comfortable asking questions and handing off work clearly at the end of each week
  • Motivated to grow toward mechatronics, robotics, or hardware engineering in a venture-backed deep-tech company

What we are looking to build

Reliable mechatronics execution for a full-stack robotics company: CAD and assemblies that match design intent, test rigs that produce trustworthy data, and documentation that lets full-time engineers move faster on prototypes heading to facilities pilots—while you develop end-to-end hardware skills from concept through validation.
