Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW

The Mechanical R&D Engineer will focus on the design, prototyping, and validation of precision mechanical components and assemblies, including tooling and fixtures used in intermetallic and crystalline material production. The role bridges concept design and pilot-scale manufacturing and supports equipment and process transfer between the company's global manufacturing sites.

Upon onboarding, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a 6-month to 1-year overseas attachment at a manufacturing site to gain industrial exposure and support technology-transfer preparations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Mechanical Design: Design and develop precision components, tooling, and fixtures using 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent), with full drawing and GD&T documentation.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Build and test functional prototypes conduct DOE, tolerance-stack, and failure-mode analysis to validate designs against performance requirements.
  • Structural& Thermal Analysis: Apply FEA and hand-calculation methods to assess stress, fatigue, and thermal performance of mechanical designs.
  • Process Optimization: Translate design concepts into manufacturable, repeatable processes suitable for pilot-and production-scale equipment.
  • Data Synthesis: Maintain meticulous records of design iterations, test parameters, and correlate design variables with equipment and product performance.
  • Technology Transfer: Support equipment, tooling, and process transfer across manufacturing sites, e.g. China, India, and Vietnam.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with materials engineering, production, quality, and site engineering teams to troubleshoot mechanical and process issues.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • 1 - 3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, prototyping, or R&D environment.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software and familiarity with GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
  • Familiarity with precision manufacturing processes (e.g. CNC machining, tooling/fixture design, sheet metal, or injection molding).
  • Experience with precision measurement tools and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Strong spoken and written proficiency in English and Mandarin additional languages are an advantage for global collaboration.
  • Willingness to travel frequently, with approximately 25% of time based in Singapore and 75%overseas.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake a 6-month to 1-year overseas attachment for technology transfer.
