Role Overview
The Mechanical Engineering Manager (Construction Accounts)directs the engineering, design coordination, and field execution ofcomprehensive Mechanical systems, with an explicit focus on heavy mechanicalinfrastructure. Managing a dedicated Construction Account meansthis role serves as the central technical liaison for major client accounts, overseeing large-scale mechanical build-outs-including HVAC, chilled water, industrialpiping, ACMV systems-from initialbidding and estimation through site testing and project handover.
Core Responsibilities
- Account & Client Technical Management
- Act as the lead technical face for key client accounts, steering technical engineering discussions and resolving system design conflicts.
- Evaluate client design requirements and coordinate variations, Request for Information (RFI) logs, and change orders.
- Present technical optimizations and value engineering initiatives directly to account directors to safely lower construction costs.
- Engineering Design Oversight & Coordination
- Oversee mechanical design reviews, including calculations, duct layouts, and piping stress analysis.
- Lead a dedicated engineering team of mechanical engineers, draughtspersons, and Modellers to map shop drawings.
- Pre-Construction Estimation & Tendering
- Collaborate closely with tender teams to produce precise material take-offs and cost estimations for mechanical services.
- Conduct rigorous technical evaluations of external vendor quotations, mechanical machinery, and equipment submittals.
- Field Execution, Commissioning & Handover
- Supervise on-site mechanical installation activities to guarantee conformity with project specifications and schedules.
- Establish quality control testing procedures and lead the system testing, balancing, and commissioning phases.
- Manage the systematic drafting of technical as-built documentation for the final handover to the operations team.
- Team Leadership & Resource Allocation
- Supervise, mentor, and track performance metrics for a diverse team of mechanical site engineers.
- Forecast time-phased headcount requirements and assign technical trades efficiently across assigned project sites.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 4+ years managing engineering teams, alongside 8+ years of field experience handling mechanical construction projects.
- Software Tools: Proficiency in CAD platforms (e.g., Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD) alongside scheduling software.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive mastery of regional mechanical codes, ASHRAE guidelines, and localized workplace safety regulations.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related technical fields.
