The Marine Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems onboard vessels to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
Operate, monitor, and maintain marine mechanical systems including main engines, auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors, and propulsion systems
Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and overhauls according to planned maintenance schedules
Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults to minimize vessel downtime
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, class requirements, and company procedures
Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and spare parts usage
Coordinate with ship crew, shipyard personnel, and shore-based teams during repairs or dry-docking
Assist in budgeting, spare parts planning, and inventory control
Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and best engineering practices
Support audits, inspections, and surveys as required
Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Valid Certificate of Competency (as applicable)
Minimum 3 years of experience in marine mechanical engineering or ship operations
Strong knowledge of marine engines, machinery, and onboard systems
Familiarity with class and flag state requirements
Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and under pressure
Mechanical troubleshooting and repair expertise
Preventive and corrective maintenance planning
Safety-conscious and detail-oriented
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Proficient in maintenance documentation and reporting
Shipboard-based / shore-based / rotation basis (as applicable)
May involve extended sea voyages, shift work, or emergency call-outs
