A robotics company is looking for a Mechanical Engineer Lead to join their R&D team, responsible for hands-on design work, reviewing team deliverables, managing stakeholders, and reporting progress to department heads.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop solutions for autonomous robot
- Lead the end-to-end process from concept to final production release
- Lead a team of design engineers, ensuring project timelines and quality standards are met
- Rapidly prototype and validate concepts using 3D printing, laser cutting, and sheet metal fabrication
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to ensure seamless hardware integration
- Define design requirements considering functionality, manufacturability, and cost, and produce detailed CAD models and engineering drawings
- Manage technical documentation, BOMs, and engineering drawings to support smooth production transition
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure product safety and reliability
- Work with suppliers and manufacturers to source components and ensure design compliance
- Support the production team with troubleshooting and assembly guidance
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Design, or related field
- Mininum 4-5 years in design engineering or product development
- Strong knowledge of product development methodologies (Agile, Stage-Gate, Lean, Design Thinking)
- Proficient in SolidWorks and rapid prototyping techniques
- Experience in NPI and launching hardware or robotic products
- Deep expertise in mechanical design, material selection (plastics and metals), and manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with supply chain operations and methodologies such as Six Sigma, APQP, and PPAP
- Skilled in structured problem-solving frameworks including DFMEA and root cause analysis
- Strong communicator, able to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
