Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Automation Equipment)
Location: Woodlands
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of high-precision automation equipment for the electronics industry, including semiconductor and PCB manufacturing, as well as customised factory automation systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Project Managers and customers to understand technical requirements and translate them into engineering designs
- Analyse project specifications and contribute to concept development and design proposals
- Design high-precision, high-performance automation equipment and mechanical systems
- Select and integrate components such as sensors, pneumatic systems, motors, servo axes, and robotics
- Prepare and manage Bill of Materials (BOM) using SAP
- Coordinate with fabrication vendors and component suppliers to ensure design feasibility and timely delivery
- Monitor and report project progress, ensuring alignment with timelines and deliverables
- Guide and support assembly technicians during equipment build, integration, and testing phases
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (Design, Manufacturing, Quality) to ensure product performance, manufacturability, and compliance
- Ensure designs meet relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and performance requirements
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in automation equipment or machinery design
- Strong background in factory automation, preferably within semiconductor or electronics manufacturing environments
- Hands-on experience in mechanical design and component selection (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, sensors)
- Proficient in SolidWorks (3D design) and EPDM/PDM systems
- Experience in BOM management, preferably using SAP
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Good understanding of machine safety standards and industry regulations (e.g., ISO, IEC)
- Familiarity with reliability engineering principles is an advantage
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across teams
- Self-driven, proactive, and capable of managing multiple design projects concurrently
