Our client is a global leader in the engineering and manufacturing industry, renowned for delivering high-performance engine systems and power solutions. They design, manufacture, and maintain cutting-edge products and systems, including power plants, transportation systems, and industrial machinery. As they continue to drive growth and expansion, they are now seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team and contribute to their ongoing success.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Design:
Create 2D & 3D parts and assembly drawings for all standard product models using SolidWorks.
Perform advanced engineering technical calculations and support the creation of part catalogues and operation manuals.
Review project (order and R&D) inquiries and summarize design change points on a component level to support Engineering BOM creation.
Address assembly line quality issues by developing short- and long-term improvement plans.
Coordinate closely with internal departments (sales, production, services, and subsidiaries) to meet project specifications and strict deadlines.
Collaborate with external suppliers regarding the design of critical components (e.g., radiators) and fabrication jobs.
Assign tasks and monitor the progress of engineering support teams on standard design drawings.
Issue Engineering Change Orders (ECO) for continuous improvement and design corrections.
Project Management & R&D:
Develop comprehensive project schedules and strictly maintain project timelines.
Prepare technical specification requirements, engineering design drawings, testing methods, testing criteria, and product delivery schedules.
Draft technical documentation for both internal and external stakeholders.
Prepare presentation materials and lead design review meetings (e.g., DRBFM) across corporate headquarters, sales, production, and QA departments.
Review and validate that new products are designed in accordance with specification requirements through Factory Acceptance Tests conducted by suppliers.
Review and compile test results in accordance with testing criteria and manage technical validation calculations (e.g., TVA).
Key Requirements
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
4+ years of proven experience in product design and manufacturing environments.
Technical Skills:
Strong background in sheet metal design & fabrication, structural design, and FEA.
High proficiency in 3D CAD software (specifically SolidWorks).
Solid understanding of acoustics, thermal management, and vibration analysis.
Comprehensive knowledge of fabrication processes, coatings, corrosion protection, and surface treatment standards.
Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) software is highly preferred (optional).
Project Management & Leadership Skills:
Proven track record in cross-functional team leadership and technical mentoring.
Expertise in managing the complete design-to-manufacture lifecycle.
Strong capabilities in supplier/vendor collaboration and testing & validation management.
Soft Skills:
Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities.
Excellent communication and presentation skills for effective internal stakeholder and customer engagement.
A strong continuous improvement mindset, ideally with familiarity in Lean/Six Sigma principles.
