Job Scope
Reporting to the Fleet Manager – Vetting, the role is responsible for supporting fleet-wide vetting readiness, marine assurance, and compliance initiatives to ensure vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards and international maritime requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct onboard internal vetting inspections, assessments, and crew training programmes to ensure vessels are fully prepared for external inspections and audits.
- Identify areas of improvement, review findings, and monitor the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to enhance vessel performance and compliance.
- Verify that vessel personnel consistently follow established operational procedures, safety routines, and company management systems.
- Ensure vessels are operated and maintained in compliance with the Company's Integrated Management System (IMS), flag state requirements, class regulations, statutory obligations, and applicable international maritime standards.
- Support vessel teams in achieving compliance with industry vetting requirements, including SIRE, SIRE 2.0, CDI, and oil major expectations.
- Review inspection reports, analyse trends, and provide recommendations to improve vetting performance and reduce recurring observations.
- Conduct onboard training and coaching sessions to strengthen crew awareness on safety practices, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Verify the effectiveness of onboard Planned Maintenance System (PMS) processes, including compliance with work permits, risk assessments, toolbox meetings, and work planning requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture by identifying potential risks, safety weak signals, environmental concerns, and recommending preventive measures.
- Support the implementation of safety campaigns and continuous improvement initiatives across the fleet.
- Review SIRE/CDI inspection results and ensure all observations are properly investigated, addressed, and closed within agreed timelines.
- Provide feedback and insights to fleet management on inspection trends, operational risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Act as the key liaison between vessels and shore-based management, ensuring effective communication and alignment on vetting and compliance matters.
- Keep updated on changes relating to SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, class requirements, flag state regulations, and industry best practices.
Requirements
- Experience in marine operations, tanker operations, ship management, or marine assurance.
- Previous sailing experience as Chief Officer / Master preferred.
- Strong knowledge of SIRE, SIRE 2.0, CDI, TMSA, ISM Code, and marine regulatory requirements.
- Experience conducting vessel inspections, audits, and crew training.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
