Our client is a well-established international marine insurer expanding its presence in Asia. They are looking for an ambitious Marine Underwriter who combines strong technical knowledge with a proactive, business development mindset to grow their marine portfolio across the region.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Develop and grow a profitable portfolio of Marine business by actively identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
- Underwrite and manage a profitable portfolio of Hull & Machinery (H&M) and Protection & Indemnity (P&I) business.
- Build and strengthen relationships with brokers, shipowners, operators, and other key market stakeholders.
- Assess and underwrite Marine risks while ensuring profitable portfolio growth.
- Negotiate policy terms, pricing, and coverage with brokers and clients.
- Conduct regular broker visits, client meetings, and market engagement activities.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging risks within the shipping industry.
- Work closely with regional and international underwriting teams to deliver tailored insurance solutions.
What We're Looking For:
- Experience in Marine Underwriting with a proven track record of developing new business OR
- Strong commercial shipping background with aspirations to move into underwriting.
- Candidates from ship management, vessel operations, technical management, marine superintendent, marine engineering, deck officer, or seafaring backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
- Excellent understanding of the shipping industry and marine risks.
- Experience in handling Hull & Machinery (H&M) and Protection & Indemnity (P&I) business.
- Commercially minded with confidence in networking and relationship management.
- Fluency in Mandarin and English is essential to communicate effectively with Mandarin-speaking brokers, shipowners, and business partners across the region
- Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and comfortable working in a client-facing environment.
