Job Description

Position Overview: This is a hands-on Marine Electrical Technician / Marine Electrical Engineer role focused on maintaining and repairing electrical equipment on vessels. The work is primarily field-based, including onboard ships, shipyards, and workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Perform servicing and commissioning of vessels onboard according to operational schedules
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical motors (AC/DC), generators, switchboards, power panels, circuit breakers, PLCs, and control circuits to ensure optimal vessel performance
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults efficiently to minimize downtime
  • Prepare detailed service and work reports documenting maintenance and repairs
  • Provide technical support at customer sites, shipyards, and workshops to resolve electrical issues
  • Work independently to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Adapt work hours flexibly to meet vessel schedules, including beyond standard working hours

Required competencies and certifications

  • ITE or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in electrical maintenance and repair
  • Good understanding of electrical installation regulations and electrical codes of practice
  • Strong communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking to effectively report and liaise with stakeholders
  • Experience working with AC/DC motors, generators, switchboards, circuit breakers, PLCs, and control circuitry

Preferred competencies and qualifications

  • Skills in electrical troubleshooting within marine electrical systems
  • Experience in preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical equipment
  • Proficiency in electrical testing and commissioning procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics accurately
  • Competence in PLC diagnostics and technical report writing
  • Strong problem-solving skills and safety awareness
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Other Information

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM (5.5-day work week)
  • Flexibility required to accommodate vessel schedules
