Marine Superintendent (Tankers)

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the marine, navigational and operational performance of assigned tanker vessels.
• Provide guidance and shore-based support to Masters and vessel personnel.
• Monitor cargo operations, including loading, discharging, tank cleaning, ballasting and bunker operations.
• Review and support cargo planning, stability calculations and ship-to-shore operational requirements.
• Ensure vessels comply with flag-state, port-state, classification society and international regulatory requirements.
• Ensure compliance with the ISM Code, ISPS Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW and the company's Safety Management System.
• Maintain vessels readiness for SIRE 2.0, CDI, terminal, charterer and oil-major inspections.
• Review inspection findings and ensure corrective and preventive actions are completed promptly.
• Conduct regular vessel visits, marine inspections, navigational audits and internal audits.
• Monitor compliance with tanker-management and industry standards, including TMSA requirements.
• Review passage plans, bridge procedures, mooring arrangements and navigational practices.
• Investigate marine incidents, accidents, cargo claims and near misses, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Assess operational risks associated with cargo handling, mooring, enclosed-space entry and other tanker activities.
• Support emergency-response activities and provide shore-based assistance when required.
• Monitor crew performance and coordinate with the crewing department on training and competency requirements.
• Support vessel takeovers, deliveries, dry-docking projects and pre-purchase inspections.
• Liaise with charterers, terminals, agents, class, flag authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
• Monitor changes in tanker regulations and industry requirements and ensure their timely implementation.
• Work closely with the technical, commercial, crewing and HSQE teams to support fleet performance.
• Undertake other marine-related duties and projects assigned by management.

Requirements

• Certificate of Competency as Master Mariner, preferably Class 1.
• Relevant seagoing experience as Master or senior deck officer aboard oil, chemical or product tankers.
• Previous shore-based experience as a Marine Superintendent within the tanker sector would be advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of tanker cargo operations and associated safety requirements.
• Good understanding of SIRE 2.0, TMSA and oil-major vetting requirements.
• Familiarity with ISGOTT, OCIMF guidelines, the ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL and STCW.
• Experience conducting vessel inspections, navigational audits and incident investigations.
• Strong leadership, analytical and decision-making abilities.
• Effective communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Able to work independently and respond to operational matters outside regular office hours when necessary.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant maritime-management systems.
• Willing and able to travel internationally and board vessels as required.
