Job Summary
This hands-on internship trains you to assist senior HVAC engineers in servicing and repairing marine HVAC systems onboard ships, preparing you for a Junior Technician role.
Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in servicing and repairing marine air-conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation systems onboard vessels
- Service compressors, fan motors, pumps, air handling units (AHUs), and fan coil units (FCUs) under supervision to maintain system performance
- Perform leak testing, nitrogen pressure testing, vacuuming, and refrigerant charging to ensure system integrity and compliance
- Conduct basic electrical checks including continuity, insulation resistance, voltage, and current measurements to support troubleshooting
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams and control schematics to assist in diagnosing and repairing HVAC systems
- Prepare tools, parts, and service reports accurately to document job completion and support maintenance records
- Follow safe working practices onboard vessels to maintain a safe work environment for self and team
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Nitec, Higher Nitec, or Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Marine, Facility Technology, or Air-Con & Refrigeration, or currently pursuing one
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces safely
- Comfortable working onboard ships, including engine rooms, at heights, and in tight spaces
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required by vessel jobs
- Willingness to travel overseas on short assignments (typically a few days to two weeks) to attend vessels in port or anchorage
- Possession of a Class 3 driving licence is a plus
Other Information
- Internship duration: 6 months, full-time
- Location: Singapore office at Kelantan Lane work onboard vessels at Singapore ports, anchorages, and shipyards
- Training allowance: $800 - $1,000 per month
- Structured on-the-job training with experienced marine engineers
- Opportunity for full-time Junior Technician position upon successful completion
- Occasional overseas trips to attend vessels in port or at shipyards - short trips, flying in and out
