Role Purpose
The Manager, Publicity & Strategic Communications leads MTFA's strategic communications, brand positioning, media relations, and public engagement efforts across the organisation. The role is responsible for developing and executing integrated communications strategies that strengthen MTFA's public image, amplify organisational impact, and drive stakeholder engagement across digital, media, donor, and community platforms.
Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Brand Management
- Develop and implement MTFA's overall publicity and strategic communications strategy across digital, print, media, and public engagement platforms
- Lead organisation-wide brand positioning efforts to strengthen MTFA's visibility, reputation, and stakeholder confidence
- Ensure consistent application of MTFA's brand identity, messaging framework, and communication standards across all service units and entities
- Oversee the development and maintenance of brand guidelines, templates, and communication toolkits
- Advise management and departments on communication strategies, reputational considerations, and public messaging
Media Relations & Public Affairs
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with media agencies, partners, community stakeholders, and external vendors
- Oversee preparation of press releases, media statements, talking points, speeches, and public announcements
- Serve as the key coordination point for media engagements, interviews, press conferences, and publicity opportunities
- Monitor media coverage and public sentiment relating to MTFA and provide recommendations for response strategies where necessary
- Support crisis communications and reputational management efforts when required
Digital Communications & Content Strategy
- Lead the planning and execution of MTFA's digital communications and social media strategy across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and website channels
- Oversee the development of content calendars, campaign strategies, storytelling initiatives, and audience engagement plans
- Ensure content produced aligns with organisational goals, fundraising campaigns, programme visibility, and stakeholder engagement objectives
- Drive the use of digital platforms, analytics, and emerging communication trends to improve reach and engagement
- Oversee content production including photography, videography, design, copywriting, and multimedia storytelling
Campaigns, Publicity & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead publicity efforts for organisational events, campaigns, launches, partnerships, and strategic initiatives
- Collaborate closely with fundraising, programme, and operational teams to support outreach and engagement efforts
- Develop communication approaches that effectively showcase MTFA's community impact, beneficiary stories, and organisational milestones
- Support donor engagement communications, annual reports, impact reports, and corporate presentations
- Oversee event publicity plans and communication materials for organisational initiatives
Leadership & Team Management
- Provide supervision, coaching, and development to communications officers and executives within the department
- Assign and monitor work deliverables, timelines, and campaign outcomes to ensure operational effectiveness
- Establish communication workflows, approval processes, and quality assurance standards
- Foster a collaborative and creative team culture focused on innovation, responsiveness, and continuous improvement
- Support capability development within the communications function through training and knowledge sharing
Governance, Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure communications activities comply with organisational governance standards, confidentiality requirements, and consent protocols
- Oversee management of communication records, media assets, publicity archives, and stakeholder databases
- Track and analyse campaign performance, media reach, digital analytics, and publicity outcomes to support reporting and strategic planning
- Prepare communication reports, management updates, and performance insights for leadership review
- Manage communications-related budgets, vendor engagements, and procurement processes where required
Cross-Functional Responsibilities
- Ability to take on cross-functional responsibilities and be deployed across different portfolios or workstreams within the Ecosystem Cluster, in line with organisational needs and evolving priorities.
- Collaborate across departments and service units to support organisational transformation, strategic projects, and enterprise-wide initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Media, or related field
- Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in strategic communications, publicity, media relations, or corporate communications
- Prior experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity preferred
- Strong understanding of branding, digital communications, public engagement, and media management
- Experience in nonprofit, social service, public sector, or purpose-driven organisations will be an advantage
- Strong writing, editing, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
- Proficient in digital communication tools and content platforms including Canva, Adobe Suite, CapCut, Meta Business Suite, or equivalent
- Familiarity with analytics tools, campaign reporting, and content performance tracking
