Position Overview
The incumbent leads laboratory operations and infrastructure while providing governance and technical oversight for test development activities supporting R&D, NPI, and mass production readiness. This role ensures a safe, compliant, and high-availability engineering lab environment and drives scalable, controlled test solutions aligned with manufacturing requirements. The position requires strong operational leadership combined with solid test engineering knowledge within semiconductor, photonics, or advanced hardware environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Own lab infrastructure, cleanroom governance, facilities coordination, and shared engineering environments.
- Plan and allocate manpower, lab capacity, and shared engineering resources to support concurrent R&D and NPI programs; forecast future staffing and infrastructure needs.
- Drive preventive maintenance, calibration systems, asset tracking, and full equipment lifecycle management.
- Implement SOPs, EHS standards, safety protocols, audit readiness, and disciplined lab processes.
- Lead lab layout optimization, expansion initiatives, capital equipment planning, and obsolescence management.
- Manage operating budgets, capital expenditures, vendor selection, contract negotiation, and service agreements.
- Monitor equipment uptime, utilization, turnaround time, safety metrics, and drive structured continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide governance and technical direction for test development supporting characterization, NPI, and production transfer.
- Ensure test solutions are scalable, documented, controlled, and aligned with manufacturing requirements, including qualification planning and GR&R oversight.
- Partner with Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and CM partners while developing a high-performance, safety-first lab and test engineering team.
Key Requirements
- Master's degree / Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Photonics, Physics, Materials Science, or related discipline
- 10+ years of experience in semiconductor, photonics, or advanced hardware environments, including 5+ years leading lab operations or engineering teams.
- Demonstrated expertise in cleanroom management, capital equipment planning, asset lifecycle control, and operational KPI management.
- Working knowledge of test development, characterization, and NPI-to-manufacturing transfer processes.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and ability to balance operational excellence with technical enablement in fast-paced R&D environments.
