Job Description

Micron Technology is seeking a Manager, Data Center SSD Firmware (M1/M2) to lead the Media Management (MM) firmware component team supporting Data Center SSD products. This role combines people management, technical leadership, and firmware component ownership to enable successful delivery of complex SSD firmware solutions.

Media Management (MM) firmware is the SSD firmware domain responsible for translating host data requests into reliable and efficient NAND flash operations. It comprises the Flash Translation Layer (FTL), which manages logical‑to‑physical address mapping, data placement, wear leveling, and reliability algorithms, and the Back End (BE), which controls low‑level NAND command execution and media interactions. Together, MM firmware is foundational to SSD performance, reliability, endurance, and quality of service.

The successful candidate will manage and develop a team of firmware engineers, serve as a firmware component lead for Data Center SSD programs, and partner closely with firmware leadership and cross‑functional teams to drive execution, quality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • People & Functional Management

  • Manage and develop the Singapore‑based DC SSD Firmware Media Management (MM) team, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and career development.

  • Drive continuous skill growth and technical depth across the team to meet current and future business needs.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, and inclusion.

  • Firmware Component Leadership

  • Serve as Firmware Component Lead for Media Management in Data Center SSD programs.

  • Own firmware component responsibilities including resource planning, scope definition, execution planning, and delivery tracking.

  • Ensure component designs and implementations meet product requirements, quality standards, and schedule commitments.

  • Program Execution & Delivery

  • Partner with SSD firmware project leads and cross‑functional engineering teams to support successful execution and on‑time delivery of firmware milestones.

  • Identify technical and execution risks early drive mitigation plans and escalate appropriately.

  • Take on additional assignments as needed to support broader SSD Engineering Group objectives.

  • Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with the Firmware Leadership Team to improve engineering processes, development efficiency, and product quality.

  • Promote best practices in firmware design, code quality, reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

  • Collaboration & Communication

  • Foster strong teamwork and effective communication within the firmware organization and with global partners.

  • Build trusted working relationships with peer managers, technical leads, and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Min 10 years of relevant firmware or embedded software development experience.

  • Min 4 years of people management experience, including managing managers or senior technical leads.

  • Experience delivering firmware in complex, cross-functional product environments.

  • Strong communication, planning, and execution skills.

  • Demonstrated success scaling teams, developing leaders, and driving execution across multiple projects or components.

  • Strong critical thinking and cross-organizational influence skills.

Requirements:

  • Experience with Data Center SSD firmware, NAND flash, storage subsystems, or components related to media management.

  • Experience driving firmware projects in a matrixed, global engineering environment.

  • Demonstrated success in talent development and team scaling.

  • Familiarity with continuous improvement, engineering process optimization, and quality metrics.
