Job Description

Management Trainee - Job Scope

Purpose

  • Build future frontline and mid-level managers by giving structured, rotational exposure to core business functions and leadership fundamentals.

Program Structure

  • Rotations: 3-6 placements across key functions (e.g., operations, sales, customer service, marketing, finance), typically over 6-24 months.
  • Learning modes: on-the-job shadowing, stretch projects, classroom/e-learning, mentorship with senior managers, regular performance check-ins.
  • Outcomes: readiness to step into assistant manager/shift lead/department supervisor roles upon completion.

Core Responsibilities

  • Operations: learn day-to-day workflows, KPIs, SOPs assist with scheduling, inventory, process compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Customer excellence: handle customer interactions, resolve escalations, capture feedback, and implement service recovery.
  • Sales and marketing support: participate in local sales efforts, lead-gen activities, promotions, basic CRM hygiene, and reporting.
  • Financial basics: support budgeting/forecast inputs, cost control initiatives, variance checks, and profitability analysis at the unit/branch level.
  • People and leadership: assist with onboarding, shift coordination, task delegation, coaching peers, and supporting engagement and safety initiatives.
  • Analysis and reporting: track KPIs, prepare weekly/monthly reports, present insights and recommendations to managers.
  • Projects: deliver rotation-specific projects (e.g., reduce turnaround time, improve NPS, optimize inventory), including problem definition, data analysis, implementation, and measurement.
  • Compliance: learn and uphold company policies, risk, quality, and regulatory requirements relevant to each function.

Success Metrics

  • Operational KPIs: service levels, cycle/turnaround time, utilization, shrink/waste, asset/fleet health where applicable.
  • Customer metrics: CSAT/NPS, complaint resolution time, repeat rate.
  • Financial: contribution to cost savings, margin improvement, revenue lift from assigned initiatives.
  • People/leadership: team feedback, reliability in shift coverage, quality of delegation and coaching.
  • Learning milestones: completion of rotation objectives, assessments, certifications, and manager evaluations.
  • Project impact: quantified improvements delivered and sustainability of changes.

Skills Developed

  • Business literacy: P&L basics, KPIs, workflow design, capacity planning.
  • Leadership: communication, situational leadership, conflict resolution, decision-making under time/ambiguity.
  • Analytical capability: Excel/Sheets, basic data analysis/visualization, problem-structuring.
  • Customer orientation: needs discovery, empathy, service recovery, upsell/cross-sell.
  • Adaptability and execution: prioritization, ownership, follow-through across diverse functions and environments.

Eligibility and Experience

  • Education: typically bachelor's degree (business, operations, finance, marketing, or related fields).
  • Experience: internships or part-time operational/customer-facing roles preferred fresh grads considered.
  • Attributes: learning agility, initiative, teamwork, integrity, and willingness to be hands-on.

Career Path Post-Program

  • Typical landing roles: Assistant Manager, Shift/Team Lead, Department Supervisor, Junior Operations/Sales Manager.
  • Longer-term progression: Branch/Unit Manager, Function Manager, Area/Regional roles depending on performance and business needs.

  • Assigned mentor and rotation manager for each placement.
  • Clear rotation charters with objectives, deliverables, and evaluation criteria.
  • Midpoint and end-of-rotation reviews capstone project and final panel assessment.
