DEPUTY / ASSISTANT MANAGER, AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE (R&D)

[What you will be working on]

At the Centre for Autonomous Mobility (CAM), we drive the national governance of autonomous vehicle (AV) technology-from safety standards to policy development and regulatory science. We're seeking committed researchers and policy-oriented professionals who want to advance regulatory science, evaluate AV capabilities, and shape a safe, trusted AV-enabled transport system.

  • Lead the development of R&D programs focused on safety frameworks, performance metrics, testing methodologies, data governance, and privacy protections.

  • Create and implement long-term research programs that address the evolving needs of CAM.

  • Develop and operationalize the R&D approach by engaging different Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) across various domains and establishing a consolidated entity for R&D efforts. This includes identifying and engaging suitable experts from IHLs, agencies, and academia for each domain to enhance research initiatives.

  • Design and oversee regulatory studies, impact analyses, and risk assessments to support AV trials, deployments, and ongoing operations.

  • Clearly articulate CAM's needs and requirements to guide researchers in proposing relevant studies and projects.

  • Collaborate closely with researchers to review their proposals, ensuring alignment with CAM's objectives and goals.

  • Oversee and manage R&D projects, ensuring timely completion of studies in support of AV deployment.

[What we are looking for]

  • Knowledge in relevant field such as engineering

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in regulatory research, policy development, or management of R&D initiatives.

  • Experience in engaging multiple internal and external stakeholders, showcasing strong listening, collaboration, and driving regulatory outcomes.

  • Experience with regulatory sandboxing, pilots, or policy implementation will be considered advantageous.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills ability to present complex concepts to varied audiences including industry, academia

  • Familiarity with data governance, safety testing methodologies, cybersecurity, and privacy considerations knowledge of AV technologies is a plus

  • Proactive, analytical, and solution-oriented with the ability to work under ambiguity
