Position Overview:
The Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire logistics process within the company. This includes managing the supply chain, warehousing, inventory, transportation, and distribution activities to ensure products and services are delivered to customers in a timely and cost-effective manner. The role requires a balance of strategic thinking, operational management, and leadership to improve processes, reduce costs, and enhance service quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Supply Chain Management: Oversee the flow of goods and materials through the supply chain, ensuring that every step of the logistics process is smooth, from procurement to delivery.
Inventory Management: Manage inventory levels to ensure that stock is maintained at optimal levels, preventing overstock or stockouts.
Transportation Management: Oversee the transportation operations, including managing third-party logistics providers, negotiating freight rates, and ensuring timely deliveries.
Warehouse Operations: Ensure the efficient operation of the warehouse, including proper storage, inventory control, and dispatch of goods.
Team Management: Lead and manage logistics staff, providing training, guidance, and performance evaluations.
Cost Control: Develop and implement strategies to reduce logistics costs without compromising service quality or efficiency.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including safety, environmental, and customs regulations.
Performance Monitoring: Establish performance metrics and monitor the effectiveness of logistics operations, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
Customer Service: Work closely with customer service teams to ensure orders are fulfilled accurately and on time, addressing any customer concerns or delays.
Reporting & Documentation: Generate regular reports on logistics operations and financial performance, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
1. Supply Chain Coordination:
Oversee the entire supply chain process, coordinating between suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors to ensure timely delivery of goods.
Maintain relationships with suppliers and customers to ensure mutual satisfaction and smooth operations.
Monitor and optimize all points in the supply chain to reduce lead times and costs.
2. Inventory & Warehouse Management:
Manage warehouse operations, ensuring efficient storage and retrieval of goods.
Supervise the inventory system to track stock levels and manage stock replenishment.
Develop and enforce procedures for receiving, storing, and distributing goods.
Implement stock control measures to ensure that materials are available when needed.
3. Transportation Management:
Negotiate contracts with shipping carriers and third-party logistics providers (3PLs).
Oversee the transportation logistics, ensuring timely delivery and optimizing transportation costs.
Track shipments and resolve issues such as delays or damages.
4. Cost and Budget Management:
Develop and manage budgets for logistics operations, striving to minimize expenses and improve efficiency.
Implement cost-saving strategies without compromising service levels.
Analyze shipping and transportation expenses and make recommendations for improvement.
5. Staff and Team Leadership:
Lead and mentor logistics staff, setting goals and performance metrics for the team.
Ensure adequate staffing levels to handle peak times and seasonal demands.
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide training and development opportunities for team members.
6. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with local, national, and international shipping regulations, including customs and import/export requirements.
Implement safety standards and best practices to prevent accidents and maintain a safe working environment.
Address any compliance issues that arise and keep up-to-date with regulatory changes.
7. Technology Integration:
Utilize logistics software and tools (TMS, WMS) to improve tracking, monitoring, and overall logistics efficiency.
Ensure the integration of technology solutions to automate processes and enhance operational visibility.
8. Customer Interaction:
Work with customer service teams to resolve any logistics-related issues, ensuring that customers receive accurate, timely deliveries.
Handle returns or issues regarding damaged goods, ensuring that problems are dealt with swiftly and professionally.
9. Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery rates, cost per shipment, inventory accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
Generate reports to track logistics performance and make recommendations for improvements.
1. Required Qualifications:
Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Proven experience in logistics or supply chain management (typically 3-5 years for managerial roles).
Strong understanding of logistics software and tools (Transportation Management Systems, Warehouse Management Systems).
