A Logistics Manager in the newspaper and transport sectors
oversees the time-critical distribution of printed media and freight
They manage fleet operations, route planning, and warehouse dispatch. Their primary goal is ensuring the secure, cost-effective, and on-time delivery of publications and goods to vendors, subscribers, and transit hubs.
Core Responsibilities
- Fleet Management & Dispatch: Directs daily transportation operations, maintaining delivery schedules, and optimizing routes for newspaper delivery vans and freight trucks.
- Supply Chain Optimization: Manages inventory for raw materials (e.g., newsprint) and coordinates the efficient movement of finished newspapers to distribution centers.
- Vendor & Driver Relations: Negotiates contracts with third-party logistics providers, negotiates shipping rates, and manages driver performance and scheduling.
- Time-Critical Logistics: Implements contingency plans for unforeseen delays (e.g., traffic, breakdowns) to ensure strict newspaper circulation deadlines are met.
- Performance & Safety Tracking: Monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as delivery times, fuel efficiency, and cost-per-mile. Ensures strict compliance with local transport and labor regulations.
Key Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related
- Experience: Proven track record in transport, fleet management, or distribution, preferably within high-volume, time-sensitive industries.
- Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), and excellent crisis management abilities.
