Role OverviewThe Linux/Unix Track Lead is responsible for overseeing vulnerability assessment, patch management, system hardening, and operational support across Unix-based platforms. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with team coordination to ensure system stability, security compliance, and effective service delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Administer and support Linux/Unix environments, including platforms such as RHEL, Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX.
- Lead patch management and vulnerability remediation activities across server infrastructure.
- Perform CVE assessments and plan remediation strategies in line with security and operational requirements.
- Execute operating system, hardware, and firmware patching, including rollback procedures where required.
- Troubleshoot operating system and hardware-related issues to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Utilize patch management tools (e.g., BigFix, SCCM, or similar solutions) for deployment and tracking.
- Assess patches and recommend appropriate deployment plans.
- Automate pre- and post-patching tasks to improve efficiency and reduce operational risk.
- Manage and support clustering technologies (e.g., Veritas, GPFS, and similar solutions).
- Maintain knowledge of storage and RAID technologies and support related configurations.
- Perform BIOS and firmware upgrades where required.
- Monitor system logs and maintain operational health of server environments.
- Prepare and maintain reports aligned with operational or service-level requirements.
- Lead and guide a team to ensure effective service delivery and optimal resource utilization.
- Promote knowledge sharing and cross-skilling within the team to support continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to maintain service quality and operational efficiency.
Required Skills & Experience- Approximately 812 years of experience in Linux/Unix system administration or a related field.
- Strong experience in patch management and vulnerability management practices.
- Hands-on experience with Unix/Linux platforms such as RHEL, Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX.
- Experience with clustering technologies (e.g., Veritas, GPFS) and server management tools.
- Familiarity with patch management tools such as BigFix, SCCM, or similar.
- Good understanding of system hardware, firmware, and storage technologies (including RAID concepts).
- Strong troubleshooting skills for OS and hardware-related issues.
- Experience working in environments with defined service levels or operational targets.
- Ability to lead by example with a hands-on approach while supporting team delivery.
Work Requirements- Willingness to support scheduled maintenance activities, including weekends or outside standard working hours when required.
- Availability for on-call support based on a rotation schedule.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment with changing priorities.
