Summary: The Line department manages the core business activities contributing to the profitability of the company's shipping services by running of assigned services in a profitable manner and ensure constant dialogue with stakeholders, vendors and customers (principal and agency). It is reactive to market changes in order to ensure improved service volumes, scope, efficiencies and profitability.
Purpose of the internship:To have an overview in ship operations, yield optimization, principles of pricing and trade strategy. As the Line department works in close collaboration with various parties across the business region to achieve profit and growth performance indicators, the intern will have the opportunity to be immersed in a dynamic, international and multicultural environment.
Reports to: Manager, Trade
Internship duration: at least 4 months (able to commit from June 2026)
Internship Learning Objectives:
- Acquire comprehensive knowledge of terminal operations and ship functionalities;
- Develop proficiency in assembling port rotations and calculating sailing schedules;
- Acquire knowledge on costings analysis of services;
- Analyze and compile data to assess the utilization rates for specific service lines;
- Master the creation of our weekly finance summary report (FLASH) for service lines; and
- Explore the opportunity to experience sailing onboard one of our premier vessel services.
Tasks you will be expected to perform:-
- Manage schedule updates for services;
- Coordinate with agents and partners for vessel bookings and space;
- Generate trade reports and market intelligence;
- Support team members in day-to-day tasks and reports;
- Prepare rates guidelines for marketing teams;
- Prepare offers for customers;
- Gather and synthesize information on customer and competitor services utilizing Alphaliner resources; and
- Any other adhoc duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree, or similar specialization from a recognized university.
- Strong academic record and a passion to develop a long-term career in the Maritime industry;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Keen commercial acumen and a strong aptitude for numbers;
- Demonstrated leadership potential and the ability to work effectively in a team;
- Proactive and adaptable mindset with a strong desire to learn, grow and take on challenges;
- Good organizational skills;
- Proficiency in the English language, both verbal and written.
