Legal – Sales and Trading Legal Counsel - AVP/VP

Position Overview

Details of the Division and Team:

A vacancy has arisen for a lawyer to join the Sales & Trading Advisory team in Singapore, which provides legal advice and support to the Rates, Foreign Exchange (FX), Credit, Emerging Markets and other business lines within the Investment Bank. The focus of this role will be primarily on support for the Sales and Trading Business across a broad range of asset classes, including fixed income, FX, rates and commodities with a particular focus on the commodities (covering both precious, base metals, oil and gas). The role involves providing legal and regulatory advice to front-office Sales and Trading desks, supporting transactional execution, and managing legal risk across various jurisdictions.

Your key responsibilities:

• Drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements related to bullion and metal trading, finance, transport, custody and settlement agreements with external clients and service providers from a wide range of jurisdictions

• Advise Sales and Trading desks on legal, regulatory, and transactional matters relating to a wide range of financial derivatives products, including fixed income, FX and rates

• Supporting commodities desks engaging in business in Emissions Allowances, Natural Gas and Oil related products

• Preparing or seeking regulatory advice with respect to all of the above areas (with a focus on commodities)

• Liaise with infrastructure functions (e.g., Treasury, Risk, Compliance, Operations, Tax) to ensure transactions are executed in compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

• Manage legal risk by identifying, escalating, and mitigating issues arising from trading activities, including market conduct, licensing, and cross-border considerations.

• Collaborate with colleagues in Legal and Compliance across the region and globally to ensure consistent legal coverage and knowledge sharing.

Your skills and experience:

• (For AVP): Qualified lawyer with 2-4 years postqualification experience (PQE)

• (For VP): Qualified lawyer with minimum 4 years postqualification experience (PQE)

• Experience in supporting Sales & Trading desk on legal, regulatory, and transactional matters relating to a wide range of financial derivatives products, including commodities, FX and rates gained in private practice and/or an inhouse regional or global financial institution.

• Legal and regulatory experience for commodities trading, including drafting and negotiating agreements relating to bullion and metal trading, finance, consignment agreements with external clients and service providers with crossborder / multijurisdictional exposure.

• Ability to multi-task and deliver under pressure in a fast-paced environment involving global stakeholders

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent legal analytical skills and problem-solving ability
