Our client is an international resources and commodity trading firm and is seeking to hire a Legal Counsel to join its global legal team, with a primary focus on trading and shipping matters. As a legal counsel for the group, you will be responsible for providing legal support to the shipping and commodities trading businesses covering both contentious and non-contentious matters.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for providing day to day advise on operational issues such as sales contract, payment terms and default matters. On the shipping front, you will assist in reviewing and drafting bespoke charterparty agreements and also handling any demurrage disputes liaising with P&I clubs on any claims issues. You will also assist in negotiating long-term supply agreements, offtake agreements and managing any arbitration and litigation proceedings across multiple jurisdictions.
Requirements
In order to succeed in this role, you should have at least 5 years of post qualification experience ideally gained in an international firm handling shipping or international trade related matters. Candidates from law firms, P&I clubs or shipping firms with strong expertise in dry shipping are welcome to apply. You should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with highly dynamic stakeholders
