Legal Counsel - Insurance

We are seeking candidates with 7–12 years post-qualification experience, ideally gained across a combination of private practice and in-house roles within the financial services sector, with a strong track record advising on insurance, bancassurance, wealth protection products, regulatory matters, and commercial transactions. The ideal candidate will have experience providing practical, business-oriented legal advice to insurance and banking stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions, supporting product development, distribution arrangements, strategic projects, regulatory initiatives, and day-to-day business operations. Experience working in a complex, highly regulated international environment and partnering closely with business, compliance, risk, and senior management teams will be highly valued.

Who are we looking for

There is currently an increased demand for experienced insurance lawyers to support the legal function of a leading international banking and financial services organisation. We are interested in legally trained professionals with the following attributes:

• 7+ years PQE gained within a leading law firm and/or a financial services, insurance, or banking organisation
• Qualified to practise law in a common law jurisdiction
• Strong experience advising on life insurance, general insurance, bancassurance, protection products, or wealth management-related legal matters
• Experience supporting insurance product development, distribution arrangements, partnerships, and strategic business initiatives
• Strong understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks and financial services regulation across one or more APAC jurisdictions
• Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including distribution agreements, service agreements, technology contracts, NDAs, and outsourcing arrangements
• Ability to provide pragmatic and risk-based legal advice on regulatory change projects, governance matters, and business transformation initiatives
• Experience partnering closely with business, compliance, risk, product, operations, and senior management stakeholders
• Exposure to cross-border legal matters and regional stakeholder management within an international banking environment
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance legal risk against business objectives
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders
• A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and evolving environment
• Availability to commence on short notice is preferred
