Cana Consulting is partnering closely with a fund, looking for a derivative legal counsel. This is an excellent opportunity for lawyers with financial markets/structuring/derivatives background to apply. This position will sit in a high performing lean, team.
Role:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide suite of trading agreements, including:
- ISDA Master Agreements and Credit Support Annexes
- Prime Brokerage Agreements
- Futures and Options Agreements
- GMRA/GMSLA and other repo/securities lending documentation
- OTC derivatives (rates, FX, credit, commodities, equity)
- Manage the full documentation lifecycle from initial negotiation to execution and amendments.
- Coordinate onboarding and documentation with trading counterparties, brokers, and clearing platforms.
- Support portfolio managers and traders on the structuring, execution, and lifecycle of derivative transactions.
- Provide legal input on collateral arrangements, margin mechanics, netting, close-out provisions, and default frameworks.
- Review and advise on fund / product documentation relating to trading, investment strategies, and use of derivatives.
- Assist in the launch of new trading strategies or market expansions across asset classes.
- Work closely with Operations, Risk, Treasury, and Compliance teams on documentation requirements and transaction flow.
- Liaise with external counsel on specialised transactional matters when required.
- Provide timely advice to internal stakeholders on documentation queries, counterparty positions, and market practice.
Requirements:
- 37 years PQE from a reputable law firm or in-house role within financial services.
- Solid experience drafting and negotiating ISDA/CSA documentation is essential.
- Familiarity with prime brokerage, repo / securities lending, and futures & options agreements strongly preferred.
- Exposure to hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, or asset managers is an advantage.
- Strong commercial judgment and ability to work in a fast-paced trading environment.
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to partner effectively with front-office teams.
