Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Sustainable Economics and Inclusive Transitions

The School of Social Sciences at NTU Singapore invites applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Sustainable Economics and Inclusive Transitions.

We are seeking to appoint an educator-track scholar who can contribute to the department's evolving focus on sustainable and inclusive economic transitions, emphasizing experiential learning, interdisciplinary teaching, and external engagement. The role is designed to strengthen the department's capacity in applied economics, sustainability, and policy-relevant research, while enhancing student learning through practice-based approaches.

Key Responsibilities

1.Experiential and Service Learning Development

. Design and deliver experiential and service-learning components within the curriculum, including field-based learning opportunities.

. Lead the development of innovative courses focused on real-world challenges such as the net-zero transition.

. Build partnerships with community, policy, and industry stakeholders tosupport applied learning experiences.

. Enhance student learning outcomes through structured reflection, evaluation, and community impact metrics.

2. Teaching and Curriculum Expansion

. Contribute to the delivery and continued enhancement of core teaching areas in applied economics and policy, particularly those related to sustainability and environmental challenges (courses such as environmental and resource economics).

. Develop new interdisciplinary and applied courses addressing themes such as energy policy, energy justice, poverty, inclusive transitions, and environmental governance.

. Integrate economic and financial perspectives into sustainability-focused teaching across programmes.

. Explore the development of interdisciplinary teaching in areas such as sustainable and green finance, which links economic analysis to real-world policy and investment challenges.

. Support curriculum innovation to ensure alignment with emerging global challenges, policy priorities, and evolving student needs.

3. Strategic Program Development and Engagement

. Design, develop, and lead new academic programmes in energy, environment, and sustainability studies, with a strong focus on applied economics and policy.

. Contribute to the strategic repositioning and development of the Economic Growth Centre, with an emphasis on sustainable and inclusive growth, and enhance its visibility through research initiatives, events, and external engagement.

. Foster collaborations with industry, government, and international organisations to support research, teaching, and programme development.

. Identify and advance opportunities for programme innovation in alignment with institutional priorities and evolving market demand.

. Lead and support cross-departmental coordination for new programme development, including design, accreditation, and implementation.

. Contribute to grant development and applied research initiatives focused on sustainability and transition pathways.

. Leverage prior professional experience in climate change and sustainability consulting to inform curriculum design, applied learning, and external engagement.

4. Research and Scholarly Contributions

. Conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersection of energy, policy, economics, and behavioral science, with a focus on sustainability and clean energy adoption.

. Develop and sustain a coherent research agenda spanning clean energy adoption, environmental and resource economics, and the behavioural and cultural dimensions of economic decision-making.

. Publish in leading academic journals and contribute to policy-relevantresearch outputs that inform practice and decision-making.

. Engage in public scholarship, contributing to media, policy dialogue, and broader societal discussions on climate change, sustainability, and environmental behaviour.

Requirements

. PhD in Economics or a closely related field interdisciplinary training, including prior degrees/training in science and technology (particularly energy), is an advantage.

. Demonstrated expertise in teaching and applied research/work in energy, environment, sustainability, or closely related areas.

. Substantial experience in teaching and curriculum development, including the design and delivery of innovative, interdisciplinary, and policy-relevant courses.

. Strong commitment to experiential and field-based learning approaches that connect theory with real-world applications.

. Proven ability to engage with external stakeholders and contribute to collaborative initiatives experience working with industry and government organisations is an advantage.

. Demonstrated capacity to contribute to programme development, institutional initiatives, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

. Experience supervising undergraduate research students and mentoring undergraduate interns.

. Strong commitment to service, including demonstrated contributions to departmental, school, or professional initiatives that support institutional goals.

Preferred Qualifications

. Experience in interdisciplinary teaching and research, particularly at the intersection of economics, policy, and sustainability.

. Proven applied experience in climate change and sustainability consulting, bridging research, policy, and practice.

. Demonstrated ability and willingness to engage with policy, industry, and community-based initiatives, translating research into real-world impact.

. Research focus aligns with the intersection of energy, policy, economics, and behavioral science, emphasizing sustainability and the adoption of clean energy.
