We invite applications from PhD‑qualified candidates for the position of Lecturer in Robotics and Autonomous Systems within the Artificial Intelligence / Computer Science discipline. This role is suited for candidates with strong teaching, research, and practical experience in robotics, autonomous and intelligent systems, and related AI domains. Experience in symbolic AI, such as knowledge representation, reasoning, planning, and knowledge graphs, will be an added advantage.
Teaching Areas
Candidates must be able to teach at least two (2) to three (3) of the following subjects, with a strong preference for robotics and autonomy‑related modules:
- Robotics
- Autonomous and Autonomic Intelligent Systems
- Artificial Intelligence Planning
- Knowledge Representation and Reasoning
- Machine Learning (with application to robotics and autonomy)
- Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence
- Knowledge Graphs
- Effective Research and Professional Practice
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high‑quality lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions that encourage active learning
- Design and deliver robotics and autonomous systems curricula, including laboratory‑based and project‑based learning
- Develop course materials, lesson plans, assessments, and learning resources aligned with academic standards
- Supervise and mentor students in coursework, projects, and applied or research‑based activities
- Assess, monitor, and evaluate student learning outcomes and provide timely, constructive feedback
- Integrate practical, research, and industry‑relevant examples into teaching
- Maintain accurate academic records and prepare required reports in line with institutional and regulatory requirements
- Provide academic advising, mentoring, and pastoral support to students
- Manage classroom and laboratory conduct in accordance with institutional policies
- Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and quality assurance activities
- Stay current with developments in robotics, autonomous systems, AI technologies, and teaching methodologies
- Participate in student enrichment, extracurricular, and outreach activities where required
- Perform other academic or administrative duties as assigned by the Head or Director of School
Job Requirements
- Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline (mandatory)
- Proven experience in Robotics and/or Autonomous Systems, including areas such as perception, planning, control, intelligent agents, or human‑robot interaction
- Recognised teaching qualifications (e.g. ACTA, ACLP, PGCHE, DACE) will be an advantage
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant working experience, preferably in academia, applied research, or industry
- Strong passion for teaching and student development
- Ability to translate research or industry experience into effective teaching and supervision
- Familiarity with modern teaching methodologies, assessment strategies, and educational technologies
- Student‑centred mindset with strong communication and presentation skills
- Good organisational, planning, and time‑management abilities
- Able to adapt to change, work under pressure, and make sound academic and professional decisions
