[What the role is]
This is a 2-year contract position as a Lecturer, Live Events and Technical Theatre in the School of Film & Media Studies.
[What you will be working on]
Teaching and Curriculum Development
- Develop and deliver curriculum for Stage & Live Events–related modules across diploma and adult learning programmes, with specialisation in Technical Theatre, Production Management and/or Theatre Drafting
- Conduct hands-on training in live event and technical theatre practices, including production planning, stage operations, venue workflows, technical documentation, and show coordination
- Guide students in the planning, management, and execution of live productions, events, and performances
- Mentor and supervise students in industry projects, productions, and event-based learning activities
- Develop industry-relevant teaching materials, assessments, and learning experiences aligned with emerging trends and technologies
- Support curriculum innovation in areas such as live entertainment, immersive experiences, and production technologies
- Teach and engage both full-time students and adult learners, including flexible teaching arrangements where required
- Provide pastoral care and holistic student development support
- Contribute to academic administration and school initiatives, including timetabling, outreach, academic quality, student development, and facilities management
Industry Engagement and Professional Practice
- Build and maintain strong industry partnerships across the live events, theatre, entertainment, and related sectors
- Facilitate collaborations, industry projects, and experiential learning opportunities for students
- Organise industry talks, workshops, backstage learning journeys, and guest sharing sessions
- Keep abreast of developments in stage technology, production workflows, drafting practices, and live event operations to ensure curriculum relevance
- Support the growth of the School's Stage & Live Events initiatives through industry engagement and professional contributions
[What we are looking for]
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Theatre, Events Management, Production Management, Theatre Production, or a related discipline
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in managing or supporting live productions, performances, concerts, events, or technical theatre operations
OR
- At least 8 years of relevant industry experience in live events, technical theatre, stage production, or related fields, with a strong portfolio of professional work and projects
- Demonstrated experience in large-scale productions, live events, or venue-based operations
- Industry certifications in workplace safety or technical theatre-related competencies will be advantageous
Skills, Knowledge And Attributes
- Strong knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Production Management, Theatre Drafting and Technical Documentation, Stage Lighting, Live Sound and Audio Systems, Event and Show Operations and Audio-Visual and Production Technologies
- Proficiency in industry-relevant software and tools, including technical drawing, drafting, scheduling, or production management platforms
- Experience in corporate events, live entertainment, performing arts, or immersive experiences
- Familiarity with local workplace safety practices and event regulations
- Strong project management, organisational, and coordination skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring abilities
- Passion for teaching, student development, and nurturing future industry professionals
- Active industry networks and awareness of emerging trends in live events and technical theatre
- Experience with hybrid events, digital production workflows, or immersive technologies will be an advantage
