The Lead Welding Engineer is responsible for managing all welding-related engineering, procedures, and quality activities for FPSO projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications, international codes, and class/flag requirements during fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases.
Lead and manage all welding engineering activities for FPSO conversion or EPC projects.
Develop, review, and approve Welding Procedures (WPS), PQRs, and WPQs.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASME, AWS, ISO, API, DNV, ABS).
Interface with Class, Client, Shipyard, and Third-Party Inspection Agencies.
Review vendor welding documentation and fabrication procedures.
Provide technical support to fabrication yards and offshore teams.
Resolve welding-related NCRs, concessions, and technical queries.
Support material selection, PWHT, NDT coordination, and weld repair strategies.
Oversee welder qualification programs and welding consumable control.
Participate in audits, FATs, and yard inspections.
Support project planning to ensure welding activities meet schedule and quality targets.
Mentor junior welding engineers and inspectors.
Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Welding Engineering.
10-15 years of experience in welding engineering within FPSO, offshore, shipbuilding, or oil & gas EPC projects.
Strong experience with:
Carbon steel, low alloy steel, stainless steel, duplex & super duplex materials
Structural, piping, pressure-containing equipment welding
In-depth knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW, FCAW).
Strong understanding of NDT methods (RT, UT, MT, PT).
Proven experience working with shipyards and fabrication yards.
Able to manage multiple packages and stakeholders under tight schedules.
IWE / IWT (IIW)
AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWE)
CSWIP 3.1 / 3.2
