Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Lead Variation Manager to lead all contract variation and claim management activities for major EPC projects. The role will be responsible for identifying contractual variations, preparing supporting documentation, negotiating with clients, and ensuring successful resolution of variation claims to support project profitability and risk management.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, project controls, and commercial teams to manage contractual changes and provide strategic guidance on contract administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end variation management process, from identification and substantiation to submission, negotiation, and final agreement with clients.

  • Analyse EPC contract terms and conditions to identify valid variation opportunities such as scope changes, unforeseen conditions, or client-driven changes.

  • Develop and submit variation claims and time extension requests in accordance with contractual procedures.

  • Work with engineering, project controls, and construction teams to quantify cost and schedule impacts arising from variations.

  • Lead negotiations with clients regarding variation claims and contract adjustments.

  • Monitor and track all variations and prepare regular reports for senior management on status, risks, and opportunities.

  • Provide guidance and mentoring to commercial and project team members on variation and claim management practices.

  • Ensure variation documentation and processes comply with project contract requirements and company procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Business, or related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in contract management, variation management, or commercial management within oil & gas EPC projects.

  • Proven track record managing contract variations and claims for large-scale offshore or energy projects.

Contract Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of international contract frameworks such as FIDIC and EPC contracts.

  • Experience managing commercial risks, claims, and contract negotiations.

Industry Experience (Preferred)

  • Experience working with major EPC contractors or international energy companies.

  • Experience supporting projects for major oil & gas operators.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills

  • Excellent analytical and contract interpretation capabilities

  • Ability to manage complex commercial issues in large projects

  • Strong communication and reporting skills

  • Proactive and results-driven approach
