Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and develop the Basis of Design, ensuring alignment with project specifications, standards, and engineering procedures.
  • Lead and execute advanced naval architecture and structural analyses for FPSO/FSO hulls, topside supports, and interface structures.
  • Perform a wide range of engineering assessments including intact and damage stability, hydrodynamics, mooring analysis, in-place conditions, and pre-service scenarios such as lifting, transportation, installation, and loadout.
  • Conduct fatigue, vibration, dynamic response, blast, and fire analyses using finite element methods.
  • Drive optimisation of hull and structural systems to enhance safety, performance, and environmental compliance, including preparation of material take-offs.
  • Review and validate deliverables and computational models submitted by subcontractors manage technical clarifications and interface coordination.
  • Develop 3D structural models using pre-processing or solid modelling tools where required.

Technical Expertise & Additional Responsibilities

  • In-depth knowledge of offshore and marine standards and codes such as AWS D1.1, API, AISC, ASME, ABS, BV, DNV, ISO 19901 series, IMO, MARPOL, and OCIMF, along with recognised industry best practices.
  • Experience in innovative structural design development, including preparation of final as-built drawings and digital models.
  • Review shipyard and vendor documentation, ensuring technical accuracy and addressing client or classification society comments.
  • Strong understanding of metocean data and environmental load generation (wave, wind, current), as well as vessel responses such as hull motions, slamming, and green water effects.
  • Competence in material selection for structural components based on design requirements and operational conditions, along with preparation of detailed technical reports and documentation.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, particularly construction, to resolve design challenges and support project delivery.
  • Prepare FPSO/FSO general arrangements, accommodation layouts, hull geometry (lines plan/offset tables), technical specifications, and material data sheets.
  • Familiarity with tanker conversions into FPSO/FSO units, including structural integration of hull and topsides, and joint design (welded/bolted).
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Project Engineering Manager or senior management, based on project needs and individual expertise.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in structural engineering and design within the oil & gas sector, with a strong focus on floating assets such as FPSO/FSO units or similar offshore installations.
  • At least 5 years must be dedicated to offshore processing projects, covering FPSO/FSO units, topside modules, and subsea-related structures.
  • Proven leadership experience of 3-5 years in a senior or lead capacity, overseeing engineering teams and/or managing project execution.
  • Hands-on experience with engineering and analysis tools such as STAAD.Pro, FEMAP, SDC Verifier, ANSYS Workbench, ABS Eagle (FPSO), BV Veristar Hull, GHS, SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, VB scripting, and Microsoft Office applications is essential.
