Job Summary
We are supporting a client to look for a Lead Mobile Engineer to own and evolve their cross-platform mobile foundation. You'll architect, build, and ship high-quality iOS and Android applications, acting as the technical authority for mobile while remaining deeply hands-on.
This is an individual-contributor leadership role, not a people-management position. You'll lead through technical excellence, mentorship, and influencesetting mobile standards, making architectural decisions, and designing systems that scale as our user base grows. Your work will directly shape performance, reliability, and user experience across our mobile products.
Roles and responsibilities
- Architect and evolve a scalable Flutter mobile platform for iOS and Android
- Build and maintain core features including GPS tracking, reservations, real-time maps, payments, and notifications
- Define and enforce mobile engineering standards across code quality, testing, performance, and observability
- Debug production issues and continuously optimize battery usage, network efficiency, and app performance
- Design and implement real-time and offline-first architectures (WebSockets, state synchronization, caching)
- Lead code reviews and provide technical mentorship to mobile engineers
- Own CI/CD pipelines, App Store deployment, and release automation
- Collaborate closely with backend engineers on API contracts, real-time protocols, and system integration
- Partner with product and design teams to translate product vision into scalable technical solutions
- Drive down technical debt with clear ROI-driven trade-off analysis
- Evaluate and introduce new tools, libraries, and techniques to continuously improve the mobile platform.
Requirements
- 8+ years of mobile engineering experience, with 3+ years building and scaling cross-platform applications
- Deep hands-on expertise in Flutter, or strong React Native experience with the ability to ramp up quickly
- Experience building real-time mobile systems (WebSockets, Firebase, location services, push notifications)
- Proven experience integrating payment gateways (e.g. Stripe, PayPal, local payment methods)
- Strong API integration skills (REST / GraphQL), including authentication and secure data handling
- Experience managing complex state and user flows at scale (e.g. live tracking, multi-step journeys)
- Proficiency with performance profiling and monitoring tools (Android Profiler, Xcode Instruments, Firebase Performance)
- Experience designing test strategies across unit, integration, and E2E tests, aligned with the test pyramid
- Strong fundamentals in Swift and Kotlin for native modules and platform-specific optimization
- Solid understanding of observability, error handling, and mobile analytics
- Systems thinker capable of designing architectures that scale to 10 user growth
- Clear technical communicator who writes documentation that remains useful over time
Nice to Have
- Open-source contributions or personal projects demonstrating technical depth
- Prior experience mentoring or guiding mobile engineers
