About the Role
You will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day clinical laboratory operations to ensure efficient workflow, service continuity, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. This role plays a critical part in supporting patient diagnosis, treatment, and prevention through the delivery of reliable and timely laboratory results, while also contributing to staff development and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily laboratory operations, including workflow coordination, task allocation, and staff scheduling to ensure optimal service delivery.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and reliable reporting of laboratory results to support clinical decision-making.
- Monitor workload distribution and proactively address operational issues to maintain efficiency and continuity of services.
- Implement, monitor, and maintain quality assurance and quality control programmes in compliance with laboratory standards and accreditation requirements.
- Manage laboratory inventory, including reagent lot tracking, stock availability, and monitoring of expiration dates.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, safety, and institutional policies, and provide support during audits and inspections.
- Lead the validation, verification, and implementation of new laboratory methods, instruments, and technologies.
- Supervise, train, and mentor medical technologists, junior staff, and students to support capability development and knowledge transfer.
- Provide technical expertise and act as a subject matter expert within the laboratory.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science or a related discipline.
- Several years of hands-on experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist within a clinical laboratory setting.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory quality systems, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements.
- Proven ability to manage laboratory operations, prioritise workload, and support team performance.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship.
