Our client is a leading data centre operator, growing quickly. They have great funding to execute their growth.
About the Role
This electrical lead position is responsible for leading electrical solution development, design oversight, and technical governance for large‑scale, data center facilities. The role works closely with customers, internal stakeholders, vendors, and project teams to deliver high‑performance, energy‑efficient, and reliable electrical infrastructure solutions.
Responsibilities
- Customer & Technical Solution Engagement
- Engage directly with clients and project stakeholders to understand electrical capacity needs, redundancy expectations, and system performance requirements.
- Provide expert technical consultation and develop conceptual design strategies that support availability, efficiency, and scalability targets.
- Collaborate with commercial and pre‑sales teams to shape technical proposals, equipment strategies, and early‑stage power‑distribution concepts for bids and tenders.
- Electrical Design Leadership
- Lead and coordinate the electrical design scope for mission‑critical projects, covering MV/LV distribution, UPS configurations, switchgear, busway systems, standby generation, and emergency power solutions.
- Develop system architecture, single‑line diagrams, power‑flow models, and fault‑level analyses to ensure safety, performance, and regulatory compliance.
- Review consultant or contractor design packages to ensure accuracy, alignment with design intent, and constructability.
- Technical Governance & Design Reviews
- Deliver technical leadership in alignment with recognised engineering standards, including applicable international codes and mission‑critical design frameworks.
- Conduct structured design reviews at key project phases (concept, schematic, detailed design, IFC).
- Ensure solutions are optimized for cost efficiency, long‑term maintainability, reliability, and modular expansion.
- Compliance, Standards & Quality Assurance
- Ensure electrical systems comply with local regulations, industry codes, and internal engineering guidelines.
- Maintain and enhance internal design frameworks, engineering references, and technical standards.
- Implement quality‑control and assurance processes to validate the completeness and accuracy of all design outputs.
- Innovation & System Performance Optimization
- Drive the adoption of advanced electrical technologies, such as modular switchgear, high‑efficiency UPS systems, innovative busway distribution, and hybrid/renewable power integration.
- Conduct system‑reliability assessments, including failure‑mode analysis, and identify opportunities for improving power‑distribution efficiency.
- Vendor, Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate with equipment suppliers to evaluate solutions based on lifecycle cost, performance, reliability, and project requirements.
- Support construction and commissioning teams by providing technical guidance, clarifications, and issue‑resolution support throughout project execution.
- Participate in factory tests, site inspections, and commissioning reviews where required.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation including specifications, design reports, schematics, testing records, and project close‑out materials.
- Support internal reporting on design progress, risks, engineering decisions, and technical cost considerations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Advanced qualifications or a Professional Engineer (PE) license are advantageous.
Required Skills
- 8–10 years of electrical design or engineering management experience in mission‑critical or high‑reliability environments.
- Must have data centre experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading full electrical design cycles from concept to completion.
- Experience with redundant power architectures (N, N+1, 2N) and high‑availability infrastructure.
- Prior exposure to large‑scale facilities, ideally exceeding 20 MW of critical load.
Preferred Skills
- Strong knowledge of MV/LV systems, UPS technologies, standby generation, grounding/earthing design, and power‑distribution solutions.
- Competent in power‑system analysis including load‑flow, short‑circuit, and protection‑coordination studies.
- Familiarity with energy‑storage systems, renewable integration, or on‑site generation solutions is a plus.
- Thorough understanding of relevant international and local electrical codes.
