Laundry Supervisor
Job Scope: Oversee laundry and linen operations to ensure timely, hygienic processing and delivery, while supervising staff to maintain efficiency, service standards and ensuring proper equipment upkeep and adequate supply of linen and materials.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Operation Management
. Oversee the full spectrum of laundry and linen services within the Home, ensuring smooth, efficient, and hygienic end-to-end operations.
. Ensure timely collection, sorting, washing, drying, folding, and distribution of residents personal clothing and facility linens.
. Coordinate and ensure prompt delivery of clean laundry to residents rooms and all departments, maintaining service timelines.
. Implement proper segregation of soiled and clean items in accordance with infection control protocols.
2. Staff Supervision & Training
. Supervise laundry staff to ensure duties are carried out efficiently and in compliance with established procedures.
. Plan staff deployment and schedules to meet operational needs.
. Provideon-the-job training and guidance on proper laundry handling, infection control practices, and equipment usage.
. Monitor staff performance and address any gaps to maintain service standard.
3. Infection Control & Quality Assurance
. Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control (IPC) standards, especially when handling contaminated or infectious linens.
. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene within the laundry area.
. Conduct routine checks to ensure quality of washed items and proper handling procedures are followed.
. Address and resolve any laundry-related issues or feedback promptly.
4. Equipment Management
. Ensure all laundry equipment (e.g., washing machines, dryers, ironing equipment) is in good working condition.
. Perform routine checks and coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs to minimise downtime.
. Ensure safe and proper use of equipment by all staff.
5. Inventory & Stock Control
. Monitor and maintain adequate stock levels of linen, uniforms, detergents and other laundry supplies.
. Track linen usage and losses and implement measures to minimise discrepancies.
. Ensure proper storage and handling of chemicals in compliance with safety guidelines.
6. Documentation & Compliance
. Maintain accurate records of laundry operations, stock levels, and equipment servicing.
. Ensure compliance with the Home's policies, safety regulations, and audit requirements.
. Support audits by ensuring proper documentation and adherence to required standards.
7. Laundry Automation
. Lead implementation and optimisation of laundry automation systems.
. Monitor equipment performance and ensure proper maintenance and utilisation.
. Develop SOPs and train staff on automated processes.
. Drive continuous improvement through workflow optimisation and data analysis.
Requirements
Education & Experience
. Diploma/ Secondary School education.
. Experience in laundry at nursing home setting is an advantage but not mandatory.
. A team player with good interpersonal skills.
. Good communications skills, with the ability to speak and write simple English (Primary 6 equivalent).
. Able to work 6-day work-week.
Skills & Competencies
. Physically fit (able to handle heavy laundry loads and stand for long hours).
. Basic understanding of hygiene and infection control practices in a healthcare environment.
. Ability to operate laundry equipment (training provided).
. Good teamwork, responsibility, and attention to detail.
. Basic communication skills (to coordinate with nursing staff).
. Familiarity with handling residents clothing and linen respectfully.
. Positive attitude and willingness to work in a healthcare environment with elderly residents.
