Job Purpose:
As a Lab Technician/Production, you will play a vital role in supporting the development, testing, and quality control of inks and chemicals. Your work will ensure the production of high-quality ink products that meet customer specifications and regulatory standards. You will need to be able to work through the processes of the production work (first 3 months or more) before going into the lab to learn QC (This is required if the applicant has no prior knowledge or experience in this line of work.)

Key Responsibilities:
- Ink Formulation & DevelopmentAssist in the formulation of ink products (e.g., solvent-based, water-based, UV inks) by following specific recipes and protocols.
Test and modify ink formulations to improve performance, colour quality, and durability.
- Quality Control & TestingPerform routine tests on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards (e.g., viscosity, colour, drying time, gloss).
Maintain detailed records of test results and assist with troubleshooting product quality issues.
- Colour MatchingAssist in colour matching and ensure consistency in colours between batches for customer specifications.
Note: Candidate must not be colour-blind as color discrimination is essential for this role. Candidate must nothave sensitive skin as there is exposure to inks and chemicals.
- Lab Equipment & MaintenanceOperate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments (e.g., viscometers, spectrophotometers, gloss meters, tensile testers).
Ensure all equipment is functioning properly and report any issues.
- Health, Safety & ComplianceFollow safety protocols and guidelines for handling chemicals and hazardous materials.
Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards related to ink production and disposal.
- Collaboration & SupportWork closely with the R&D and production teams to optimize formulations for scale-up and commercial production.
Provide technical support to the production team to resolve any issues during the manufacturing process.
- Documentation & ReportingMaintain accurate and organised records of formulations, test results, and any deviations from standard processes.
Generate reports for management regarding ink properties, test results, and any quality concerns.
- Research & Development SupportAssist in the development of new ink technologies and formulations for new products or markets.
Stay updated on industry trends and new chemical technologies.
Consistent and continuous practice of QC during down times.
Qualifications:
- Education:It is a bonus to have Diploma in Chemistry or any certifications in ink technology or quality control.
Minimum Secondary education with a desire to learn and take hardship. (There will be a rigorous training program for these applicants).
- Experience:Previous experience in a laboratory or manufacturing setting, preferably in ink, coatings, or related chemical industries is desired.
Familiarity with ink formulation, testing methods, and quality control processes is desired.
- Skills:Strong understanding of ink chemistry, including raw materials (pigments, resins, solvents) and their behaviour.
Knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and techniques for measuring viscosity, colour, adhesion, drying time, and gloss.
Ability to distinguish colours and match ink colours accurately.
Good troubleshooting skills to identify and solve ink-related production issues.
Ability to handle and work with chemicals safely and efficiently.
Attention to detail and accuracy in recording and reporting data.
- Other Attributes:Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Team player with the ability to collaborate across departments (R&D, production, management).
Proactive and willing to learn new techniques and technologies in ink manufacturing.
Familiarity with safety standards and environmental regulations.
Work Environment:
- Physical Demands: The role may involve working with chemicals, laboratory equipment, and standing or sitting for extended periods. Safety gear such as gloves, goggles, and lab coats are required.
- Work Schedule: Full-time, with possible overtime depending on production needs. Mon - Thursday (8am-550pm) and Friday (8am-450pm).
