Job Description

The L2 AWS Cloud Engineer and Consultant plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between enterprise clients and our global service delivery teams. Acting as a trusted technical advisor, this professional spearheads Day 1 activities, including initial technical consulting, architectural discovery, and the seamless onboarding of new client infrastructures into our managed services portfolio. Transitioning into Day 2 operations, they serve as the primary L2 escalation point, utilizing a proactive sysops mindset to rapidly resolve complex infrastructure bottlenecks, lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations, and enforce strict SLA compliance. Beyond day-to-day firefighting, they continuously drive infrastructure automation using Terraform and actively collaborate with stakeholders to implement FinOps cost-optimization strategies. Ultimately, this role demands a unique blend of deep cloud expertise, multi-tenant adaptability, and the consulting acumen necessary to translate sophisticated technical solutions into clear business outcomes for executive stakeholders.

Role & Responsibilities

Day 1 Responsibilities: Consulting, Client Advisory & Transition

  • Technical Liaison & Consulting: Act as the primary technical point of contact and advisor for enterprise clients, translating complex business requirements into scalable AWS strategies and bridging communications with the global delivery team.
  • Assessment & Scoping: Conduct initial environment discoveries, review existing AWS infrastructures against the AWS Well-Architected Framework, and recommend strategic improvements.
  • Transition & Documentation: Lead the onboarding and transition phase of new client environments into the managed services portfolio establish, update, and maintain comprehensive runbooks, architectural diagrams, and Confluence documentation.
  • Change Planning: Collaborate with solutions architects and customer stakeholders to plan, risk-assess, and draft implementation paths for complex technical migrations or upgrades.

Day 2 Responsibilities: Operational Managed Services & Optimization

  • Incident & Problem Management: Serve as the L2 escalation point for complex infrastructure issues (e.g., networking bottlenecks, RDS performance degradation, IAM permission conflicts) and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations to deliver permanent fixes.
  • SLA & On-Call Ownership: Maintain strict adherence to client SLAs for high-priority incidents and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to resolve critical enterprise production outages.
  • Deployment & Change Management: Manage and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines (AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, GitLab CI) and leverage Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation) to ensure absolute environment consistency.
  • Continuous Patching & Upgrades: Plan and execute OS-level patching (Linux/Windows) and AWS resource upgrades (e.g., RDS minor versions) with minimal business downtime.
  • Proactive Observability: Configure and fine-tune CloudWatch dashboards, logs, and alarms to optimize operational visibility while mitigating alert fatigue.
  • FinOps & Cost Optimization: Conduct regular reviews using Trusted Advisor and Cost Explorer to deliver rightsizing recommendations, Savings Plans, and Reserved Instance (RI) strategies to the customer.

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • AWS Core Services: Deep expertise in EC2, S3, VPC (VPN/Direct Connect), RDS, Lambda, Route 53, and ELB.
  • Automation / Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Strong proficiency in Terraform (Preferred) or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Scripting: Hands-on automation experience utilizing Python or Bash.
  • OS Administration: Robust Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) and Windows Server system administration and troubleshooting.
  • Networking & Security: Advanced understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, SSL/TLS, Load Balancing patterns, Security Groups, NACLs, and IAM policies.
  • Containers (Plus): Practical experience managing Amazon ECS or Amazon EKS (Kubernetes).

Preferred Certifications

  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate (Required)
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate (Highly Desirable)
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional (A Plus)
