We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Research Scientist to support plant biology research activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for plant cultivation and maintenance, execution of basic plant biology experiments, data collection and reporting, laboratory management, and administrative support for research projects. This role requires strong organizational skills, good laboratory practices, and the ability to follow experimental protocols accurately while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities and Duties
Plant Growth and Maintenance
- Grow, monitor, and maintain experimental plants in pots, greenhouse, growth chambers, and laboratory environments.
- Ensure proper irrigation, fertilization, pest management, and overall plant health.
- Maintain accurate records of plant growth, treatments, and observations.
- Assist in establishing and managing plant trials and experiments.
Research and Laboratory Activities
- Conduct basic plant biology and molecular biology experiments following established protocols.
- Perform sample collection, preparation, processing, and analysis.
- Assist in data collection, data entry, and experimental documentation.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper calibration where required.
- Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and laboratory safety procedures at all times.
- Support the development and optimization of experimental procedures.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Process, organize, and analyze experimental data using Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.
- Prepare data summaries, charts, graphs, and reports.
- Assist in preparing project reports, technical documents, and research summaries.
- Ensure accurate record keeping and documentation of research activities.
Documentation and Communication
- Draft, update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Prepare scientific presentations and project updates using Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Create biological illustrations, diagrams, and experimental workflows for reports and presentations.
- Maintain organized project documentation and research records.
Administrative and Operational Support
- Raise Purchase Requisitions (PRs) and support procurement activities.
- Follow up on purchase orders, laboratory consumables, equipment requests, and vendor communications.
- Monitor laboratory inventory and maintain stock records.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely procurement and project support.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the Senior Research Scientist and other team members to execute research projects.
- Follow instructions accurately and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Adapt to new research projects, technologies, and methodologies as required.
- Provide support to other departments and cross-functional teams as needed to ensure smooth execution of projects and company initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Plant Science, Plant Biotechnology, Biology, Agriculture, Horticulture, Crop Science, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
Experience
- Prior experience in plant cultivation, greenhouse operations, laboratory research, or internships in plant science is advantageous.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of plant growth, cultivation, and maintenance practices.
- Understanding of basic plant biology and laboratory techniques.
- Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and laboratory safety requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data processing and analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint for preparing presentations and reports.
- Ability to create scientific figures, biological drawings, and experimental schematics.
- Experience in writing SOPs and technical reports is desirable.
