Our facility in Singapore has key functions in research and development, procurement, sales and finance for our Lighting and Detection business lines, in addition to key functions related to our Optics Manufacturing capabilities.
This site produces optical lenses such as spherical, aspherical and plano optics, with large machine shop capabilities and expertise in optical coating and assembly. Our photonic products and solutions serve a wide range of markets and applications in the areas of medicine, life science, industrial manufacturing, defense, and aerospace, as well as research and development.
Role Overview
The Product Development Engineer is responsible for supporting the development, design, and optimization of new products within a manufacturing environment. This role works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product introduction, process readiness, and continuous improvement of product performance, quality, and cost.
The position combines hands-on engineering, data analysis, and project coordination to support both new product development and sustaining activities.
What You'll Do
- Support the development and introduction of new products from concept through production (NPI)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations to ensure smooth product transfer
- Assist in designing and conducting experiments (DOE) to optimize product performance and process capability
- Perform data analysis using statistical tools to drive process improvements and support decision-making
- Apply Six Sigma methodologies (SPC, DMAIC, FMEA) to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Participate in failure analysis to identify defects, determine root causes, and recommend solutions
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including process flows, work instructions, and reports
- Support project timelines, deliverables, and risk tracking to ensure successful execution
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance yield, efficiency, and product quality
- Provide on-site support at manufacturing facilities (including regular travel to Batam) as required
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline
- 1–2 years of experience in Product Development, R&D, or Electronics Manufacturing/Packaging (fresh graduates are welcome to apply)
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Good communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in statistical analysis tools such as Excel and Minitab
- Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies (SPC, DMAIC, DOE, FMEA)
- Familiarity with failure analysis methodologies
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Knowledge of CAD design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent)
- Exposure to semiconductor packaging or assembly processes such as:
- Dicing
- Die Bonding
- Wire Bonding
- Encapsulation / Sealing
- Experience working in a manufacturing or high-volume production environment

- Willingness to travel regularly to the Excelitas Batam facility to support development and production activities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Strong problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
