Job Summary
You will service, troubleshoot and repair marine air-conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation systems onboard vessels, working alongside our senior HVAC engineers. Land-based air-con experience is welcome. We will train you on the marine side.
Responsibilities
- Service, troubleshoot and repair marine air-conditioning, refrigeration, chilled water, and ventilation systems onboard vessels
- Service compressors (Carrier, Daikin, York, Sabroe, Bitzer, Copeland), fan motors, pumps, air handling units (AHUs), and fan coil units (FCUs)
- Perform leak detection, nitrogen pressure testing, vacuuming, and refrigerant charging to ensure system integrity
- Carry out electrical troubleshooting on contactors, relays, overloads, pressure switches, thermostats, and temperature controllers
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams and control schematics to diagnose faults
- Conduct electrical checks including continuity, insulation resistance, voltage, and current measurements
- Carry out preventive maintenance onboard vessels according to service schedules
- Attend vessel breakdowns at Singapore ports, anchorages, and shipyards
- Prepare service reports accurately to support job completion and documentation
- Follow safe working practices onboard vessels, including safe electrical isolation procedures
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- 1 - 3 years of hands-on experience servicing air-conditioning or refrigeration systems marine or shipyard experience is an advantage but not required
- Nitec, Higher Nitec, or Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Marine, or Air-Con & Refrigeration, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Competent with gauges, vacuum pump, leak detector, multimeter, and general hand tools
- Able to handle physical work such as lifting, climbing, and working in engine rooms, at heights, and in confined spaces
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and attend emergency vessel breakdowns
- Willingness to travel overseas on short assignments (typically a few days to two weeks) to attend vessels in port or anchorage
- Possession of a Class 3 driving licence is an advantage
Other Information
- Employment type: Full-time, permanent
- Location: Singapore office at Kelantan Lane work primarily onboard vessels at Singapore ports, anchorages, and shipyards, with occasional overseas assignments
- Basic salary: $1,800 - $2,200 per month, depending on experience
- Overtime pay, performance incentives, medical benefits, and annual leave
- Training on marine chiller plants, provision refrigeration, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and PLC-based control systems
- Exposure to condition monitoring work such as vibration analysis and thermal imaging on marine machinery
- Career progression to Senior Technician
- Occasional overseas trips to attend vessels in port or at shipyards - short trips, flying in and out
